The M.I.H.T.M. curriculum consists of 36 semester hours of graduate credit in approved courses. Students may choose either a professional (non-thesis) or academic (thesis) option. Every graduate student brings a unique perspective, and the work experience that you've already gained will certainly influence the direction that you'd like to go next! That's why this program was designed to be flexible ⎯ you will gain industry insights that compliment your existing knowledge, while also introducing you to new skills and knowledge that will allow you to take your career to the next level. Students electing the academic, thesis option must complete 21 credit hours of required courses, including 6 credit hours of thesis preparation (HRTM 799) and at least 15 hours of elective course work and prepare and successfully defend a thesis. Students choosing to enroll in the professional, non-thesis option must complete the 21 credit hours of required courses and at least 15 credit hours of elective course work, pass a comprehensive written examination upon completion of all course work. In addition, students must complete a work experience requirement (HRSM 795 Field Project) that includes participation in management decision-making in a hospitality or tourism business environment.
