The English department offers technical or creative writing internships, along with small press and professional journal publication internships, to provide English majors with practical experience and contact with the world of work before they complete their degrees. The following examples give the scope of projects that are possible:

Community-based internshipsEach semester students are placed at The Aiken Standard (reporting, editing) and the Aiken Center for the Arts (writing, layout, and design). These internships experiences allow juniors and seniors majoring in English to apply to the workplace what they have learned in the writing classroom.

Technical writing internshipsSeveral students worked with Westinghouse Savannah River and the U.S. Department of Energy to produce the executive summary prefacing the 1995 DOE Defense Waste Processing Environmental Impact Statement.
