Yes, IIIT Pune is a good college. It offers good academics. Classes are regular. It has a great faculty base. The faculty members are supportive. You can consult your HOD and any senior faculty member regarding any doubt. The institute offers good infrastructural facilities to the students. There are separate hostel accommodations for boys and girls.  IIIT Pune placements have been good for the last few years. According to the latest placement highlights, B.Tech students received the highest CTC of INR 36 LPA.  IIIT Pune has technical, sports, and cultural clubs that you can join.

IIIT Pune is the best option among these. It has made tremendous strides, in a short span of time. Over the last few years, IIIT Pune placements have witnessed an upward surge. The ongoing process and overall development of IIIT Pune and IIIT Nagpur are considered to be averagely graded, according to the present conditions of the institute. Some of my friends are pursuing their studies at IIIT Pune and IIIT Nagpur. I will try to give an insight below about the institutes, based on what I heard from them. According to placement reports of IIIT Pune and IIIT Nagpur, the level of the institutes is close to NITs, if not inferior. As with NITs, they have low academic freedom, a decent undergraduate program with good placements, and almost no scope for research-based works. There are reports of IIIT Pune rejecting applications to recruit professors with Ph.D. from IIT Bombay or IISc, even without interviewing them. The reason stated for the rejection was the candidates did not have an engineering undergraduate degree, but a mathematics Hons. The institute did not consider excellent research works as important, even from places like IISc and IIT Bombay. On rejecting candidates with good profiles, the institute selects candidates as professors from Ph.D. in NITs, Nirma University, etc. IIIT Nagpur also has similar records of meaningless decisions. Thus, there are several irregularities in IIIT Pune and IIIT Nagpur which states that the two institutes are on average condition at present times.

IIIT Pune is good in terms of academics and placements. As a central Govt. institute, it offers great facilities. IIIT Pune has a 100% placement rate. The highest and average CTC offered is around INR 11-15 LPA and INR 36 LPA. Companies such as Nutanix, Robert Bosch, Gojek, Rakuten, Code Nation, etc. took part in IIIT Pune placements. 

The campus of IIIT Pune is surrounded by ghats. That being said, there is no problem with connectivity. It is easily accessible from Pune station and Shivajinagar. Thus, the location is good. Pune is one of the cities that comprise the silicon triangle. There is no problem with placement as many industries which are related to computing are located here. There are no branches such as civil engineering or mechanical engineering and subjects like physics and chemistry. 

IIIT Pune would be a better option than IIIT Vadodara as it gives better exposure and has a decent placement record.  One of my relatives studies there, and it gives the idea about the college very well. However, the college is newly settled and not as old as other IIIT. It is growing and improving and in upcoming years it may become the top college in Maharashtra. I have a friend at IIIT Pune. I only heard good things about the institute from him. Here are some facts about IT at PICT and CSE at IIIT-Pune, which may help you to decide.  Teachers: All of the faculties of IIIT-Pune are Ph.D. holders from institutes like IIT KGP, NITs, and foreign universities. Most of the faculties of PICT are M.Tech or still pursuing their PhDs. Crowd:  Instead of going home during vacations, students attend Android and Web development workshops.  Faculties encourage students to take up projects and internships from the first semester. Degree:  Students get B.Tech in IIIT-Pune as compared to a B.E. at PICT.  IIIT-Pune's curriculum doesn't include subjects like Civil, Engineering Drawing, Mechanics, Mechanical, Chemistry which are of no use in the course of CSE. Institute of National Importance: IIIT-Pune is like all the IITs, NITs, IIITs which is an Institute of National Importance( INI) which leads to a lot of Government funds and monetary support.  Students who did their 12th from the MP board or others can receive a full tuition fee waiver for 4 years of their B. Tech since IIIT Pune is an INI. Sports and Clubs: Any student can start a club of their own if they have a passion for something at IIIT-Pune.  IIIT- Pune bagged 5 medals in IIT- BHU’s Annual Sports Fest Spardha and continues to receive honors in other sports events as well. Attendance and Holidays: PICT has minimum attendance criteria of 75% and PICT imposes an 80% attendance. PICT has 9 days winter break and 15 days summer break, so if you are not a local then you will not get to see much of your family. At IIIT-Pune students get 1 month of Winter Break and about 2.5 months of Summer Break.  Exposure and Brand: IIIT-Pune students usually go for two industrial visits to Infosys and Tech Mahindra.  IIIT is a brand as there are a total of 23 IIITs in India and are recognized throughout the country and overseas.  IIIT-Pune also has inter-IIT sports and technical fests every year where all the IIITs across the country take part. Students think that PICT is old so it’s better and yes it’s been around for 20 years since PICT’s inception and it has developed whereas IIIT-Pune is just 2 years old and has the potential for tremendous growth. 

Among the above two institutes, IIIT Pune is the definite choice, considering a number of factors including IT industry exposure, internal competition, and overall development in the institutes. I know a few people from both institutes, so I can give you an idea about them. Location:(Winning Institution - IIIT Pune) Presently, Pune is considered to be a large IT hub, with offices of several companies from different sectors too. In 2018, Pune was listed as the second most paying city for software engineering jobs in India, after Bangalore.  For research-minded students, there are several institutes in Pune including the National Chemical Laboratory, and the Indian Institute of Science, Education, and Research (IISER, Pune). This will give you a bundle of opportunities. Pune is a metropolitan city in itself, whereas Sri City is 74 km away from the closest metropolitan city, Chennai. Student Intake: IIIT Pune takes in a total of 120 students per year, 60 in CSE, and 60 in ECE. On the other hand, IIIT Sri City takes in 270 students per year, 200 students in CSE, and 70 in ECE. Therefore, it is evident that a lesser number of students will get better attention from professors, less internal competition, more opportunities, and a focused learning experience. Mentor Institute: IIIT Pune’s mentor institute (College of Engineering, Pune) is located in Pune itself, whereas IIIT Sri City’s mentor institute is IIIT Hyderabad, 608 km away from it. So it is easier for IIIT Pune students to attend mentor institute events, lectures, and facilities. Extra-curricular: Students from IIIT Pune have excelled in several sports events too, like IIT BHU’s Spardha. There are several Coding, Robotics, and technical events in which IIIT Pune students excel. Future Development: The growth pace of IIIT Pune is very fast. With a number of hardworking students and dedicated professors, IIIT Pune will soon reach a good height and will be considered a leading institute. The 100-acre campus construction of IIIT Pune will get completed, which is being set up in between the city’s core industrial zone. After IIIT Pune receives its own director, the growth rate is bound to increase and so is the development of the institute. Considering all of the above factors, IIIT Pune is a definitely better choice, providing several opportunities to students in the industry and research fields.
