Tamil Nadu National Law School (TNNLS) is one of the elite institutions counted amongst the group of top law colleges in the country. Undergraduate integrated programmes such as BA.LLB and B.Com LLB are offered by this university. Tamil Nadu National Law School (TNNLS) started in 2013, situated on a 25 acre residential campus in Navalurkuttappattu, and is the first of its kind national level legal institution situated in the state of Karnataka.

  • Applications for CLAT (for undergraduate courses) are available, starting from the month of December.
  • The selection process to the undergraduate LLB programmes is done on the basis of merit in the Common Law Aptitude Test (CLAT) held across the country.
  • Reservation is in accordance with the regulations of the Government of India.
  • The courses are 5 year integrated courses, enabling selected candidates to obtain two degrees at the successful completion of the course.

Tamil Nadu National Law School (TNNLS) BA.LLB and B.Com-LLB Admission 2023

The University offers undergraduate double major (integrated) law programmes, namely BA.LLB and B.Com LLB. In accordance with the functioning of all National Law Schools in the country, the selection process consists of marks secured in the Common Law Aptitude Test (CLAT). Merit list is prepared based on the performance in the examination, following the merit-cum-preference system for CLAT candidates across the country.

The details of the CLAT examination are as follows:

  • The test consists of a 200 mark multiple choice question paper, for a duration of 2 hours.
  • One mark is awarded for every correct answer.
  • 0.25 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer.

The paper is divided into five sections - English with comprehension accounts for 40 marks, General Knowledge and Current Affairs accounts for 50 marks, Numerical Ability for 20 marks, Legal Aptitude for 50 marks, and Logical Reasoning for 40 marks.

Candidates must have passed the 10+2 level examination from a recognized board, i.e. CBSE / ISC / State Board or the equivalent, with a minimum of 45% marks scored. They must be below the age of 20 (for unreserved categories) and below the age of 22 for reserved categories. Valid registration to CLAT examination is required.

B.Com – LLB

For admission to Tamil Nadu National Law School, candidates must apply and register themselves for the CLAT examination. While registering, candidates must enter Tamil Nadu National Law School under their preferences in order to be considered for admission.

  • The minimum required eligibility to apply for these programmes is a pass at the 10+2 level with a minimum of 45% marks, and a valid CLAT score.
  • The upper age limit is 20 years for unreserved categories, and 22 years for reserved categories.
  • Once selected, candidates must provide all relevant documents for verification, and pay the required amount of fees as stipulated by the university.

In order to apply for admission to Tamil Nadu National Law School, candidates must state it as their preference while registering for the CLAT examination. The breakdown of the application process is as follows:

  • Candidates should log on to the official CLAT website
  • Click on the ‘Apply Online’ tab, which will redirect the applicant to a page run by the respective National Law University responsible for conducting the CLAT examination of the year.
  • Read all instructions given carefully before going to the ‘Register Online’ tab.
  • Fill in all details required in the form, and confirm every entry before proceeding to submit the application.
  • In the preference section, choose ‘Tamil Nadu National Law School’ as the higher preference choice.
  • Payment of the application fee can be done through online transactions as directed by the website.
  • Admit cards for the examination will be issued after the closure of applications, subject to successful submission of the application form and fulfillment of eligibility criteria.
  • The form costs Rs.4000 for unreserved categories, and Rs.3500 for reserved categories.

  • This is a 5-year course with ten semesters provided for students to learn diverse subjects related to the field of law.
  • There are elective courses students can choose from apart from the compulsory ones listed in the syllabus.
  • Some of the elective courses include private and international law, cyber law, banking law, human rights law, etc.
  • Other compulsory subjects include economics, political science, corporate law, history, etc.

NMIMS School of Law:

  • In this 5 year course, students will be provided with an opportunity to study law along with humanities.
  • Core subjects offered in this course include political science, economics, sociology, history, etc.
  • Students will also be exposed to developmental subjects like critical thinking, moot court, professional ethics and legal writing.
  • The course is mainly divided into modules spread out over a span of ten semesters.

Placements:

NLU Trichy:

  • Students are compulsorily made to participate in internships for which they are provided with a stipend from employers like Mahindra and Mahindra, Infosys, Indian Overseas, etc.
  • The highest package offered for BA LLB students is INR 65,000 per month with an average salary of INR 35,000 per month.

NMIMS School of Law:

  • Students are actively asked to join internships in order to boost their careers with the help of the placement cell.
  • Companies like Juris Corp, Economics Law, Edelweiss, and DSK legal recruit students with an average salary of INR 6 lakhs per annum and highest salary of INR 16 lakhs per annum.

Both institutes are good for pursuing BA LLB and are relatively new. Students can take a decision based on the aspects discussed above and any other they wish to consider.
