There are two types of hostel facilities at Visva-Bharati University, i.e. new and old. The newly build hostels have modern facilities like wardrobe, study table, proper lights, 24*7 security, etc. The old hostels are also well-equipped. But the buildings are of ancient style. They offer food two times, i.e. lunch and dinner. Food offered at the hostels is quite good. If you want to leave the hostel and go home for some reason, you will need permission from your HOD.

No. Rabindra Bharati University (RBU) and Vishwa Bharati University are not the same. They are two separate universities.

RBU is a state university whereas Visva Bharati is a central university. They are not related to each other in terms of administration but share the same ideologies and culture.

RBU main campus is situated in Jorasanko, the ancestral house of Rabindranath Tagore. Visva Bharati was founded by Tagore in an estate of Bolpur owned by his father Maharshi Debendranath Tagore.

The required cutoff varies each year depending on the question pattern. Every year Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) declares cutoff for each category. However, according to the recent cutoff pattern, the required cutoff will be above 450. However, for UG courses, these colleges are great options. Visva-Bharati University and Bidhan Chandra Viswavidyalaya also take direct admission. So, if you have good marks in 10+2, you can try for direct admission.

Here are a few preparation tips for the MSc Botany Entrance of Visva Bharati University.

  • Make your basics clear.
  • Go through the textbooks you followed during your graduation. ‘A Textbook of Botany’ by Hait, Bhattacharya, and Ghosh can be a good reference book.
  • Microbiology, Mycology, and Plant Pathology, Cell Biology and Genetics, and Molecular Biology, Plant Physiology, and Biochemistry are a few of the sections that you should pay more attention to.
  • You will get MCQ questions in the entrance, so you should prepare accordingly.

Hope this helps you get some idea about the entrance.

The questions asked in the MSc entrance are MCQ type. The question pattern also differs from department to department. You can’t predict the question pattern, since the questions are made by professors of specific departments. However, you can solve the previous year’s question papers to prepare for the entrance. But it’s difficult to get the previous year’s questions online. You can get the question papers from the local xerox centers of Siksha Bhavana.

Yes, Visva-Bharati University offers a 5-years integrated M.Sc program. It is offered by  Integrated Science Education and Research Centre (ISERC). You will be studying basic sciences like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Advanced Computing, Environmental Science, etc., and a few other courses like English, History, and Philosophy of Science in your first two years. You have to choose your major in your 3rd year. Currently, the majors offered are Life Sciences, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Environmental Sciences. You will have to choose three elective courses along with your major. One of these electives needs to be from your major and the other two should be from other majors. Yes, students from Bihar/Jharkhand go to Visva Bharati University for studies. In fact students from all over India come to Visva Bharati. You will meet students from far south to North East, on campus. You can easily find students from your community. At first, it can be difficult to adjust, as the majority of the students are local. Many professors also use Bangali while teaching. If you face difficulty understanding, you can ask them to repeat the same in English. Over time, you will also start to understand the language.

Calcutta University is the best option for doing an M.Sc in Physics and here is that preference order that you should follow.

  1. Calcutta University
  2. Burdwan University
  3. Visva-Bharati University
  4. North-Bengal University

Also, you should know that irrespective of which university you are taking, you will have to study on your own. You may get assistance from your professor or your friends. However, you will have to put in the extra effort to do well in your academics and get a job.
