Course Description

Utkal University PhD Admission 2023 is going to begin soon. Admission to the PhD programmes isbased on the entrance examination and qualifying degree, written test and an interview. Candidates with the relevant PG degree can register for the above mentioned programmes. Seats are reserved for people belonging to different categories such as SC/ST/BC etc. as well as special categories viz. Differently-abled etc. as per the rules of GOI/UGC/University Committee. Utkal University is a UGC Recognized, AICTE Approved and one of the oldest universities in India established in 1943.This is the largest affiliating university with 267 affiliated general colleges, 15 law colleges and 6 medical and pharmacy colleges. Utkal University imparts professional /nonprofessional education, research and training.

Utkal University Ph.D Eligibility Criteria

Candidate must not be employed and should have passed PG in the concerned subject with not less than 55% marks or equivalent grade (50% marks for SC/ST and PWD candidates) from Utkal University or any other University recognized as equivalent by Utkal University
Candidate must qualify the entrance test conducted by the university.
The candidates who have qualified UGC-CSIR-NET/ GATE/ SLET/ DBT/ ICMR/ ICHR/ ICSSR/ INSPIRE Fellowship of DST/ Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship are not required to qualify the entrance test conducted by the university.
Candidates having M.Phil. / M.tech Degree are also not required to qualify the entrance test conducted by the university only if they have been admitted to M.Phil. / Match Program through a written / interview test.
For admission to PhD in Technology and PhD Degree in Medicine and Dental discipline the eligibility of the scholar and supervisor shall be determined as per norms laid down in the statutes and guideline of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE)/ as per norms laid down in the statutes of the University or guidelines of MCI (Clause 5.1 of PhD Regulation) respectively.

Utkal University Ph.D Admission Process

Admission to Ph.D. programme will be made on the basis of qualifying degree marks followed by interview i.e., 40% career + 40% written test + 20% viva-voce.
Selection of the candidates, qualified in the National level tests like UGC-NET, GATE, SLET, ICPR, ICSSR, ICHR, etc. is done on the basis of an interview.

Scholarships: The University endows the following scholarships to its deserving candidates:

SC/ST Welfare and Backward Class Scholarships
Scholarships given by Govt. of India
Medharuti and prerna scholarship
Merit scholarships
Fellowships for scholars

Hostel facility: The university provides separate hostel facility for boys and girls. There are six boy’s hostels and four for girls. The hostels have the facilities of regular newspapers, periodicals common mess.

Utkal University Ph.D Application Process

The candidates can apply online by registering himself/herself to the university website. Candidate must log in to the website with the user ID and password generated at the time of registration and must follow the following steps:

Fill in all the important details correctly.
Submit the application fee of Rs.1500/- to apply for Ph.D. course through credit / debit card / internet banking of any bank accompanied by the generation of e-receipt

Note: The reference number of the e-receipt will be required to input while filling up online application form.

After submission of application form, the candidate can download the Admit Card.
Candidate must keep a copy of the Admit Card /application form for future reference.
Candidate must send/submit hard copy of filled in application form along with recent passport size photographs and relevant documents to the Head of the Department before last date either in person/by post
The candidate must submit the photo affixed and duly signed application and the following copies of following documents.
1. Mark sheets and Certificates of all examinations.
2. C.L.C. and Conduct Certificate from the institution last attended.
3. SC/ST Certificate from the competent authority (MP / MLA / Collector / ADM / SDO / Local Gazetted Revenue Officer not below the rank of Deputy Collector or Tahasildar) by candidates of those categories.
4. PH certificate physically challenged students and ID card issued by District Welfare Officer / Community Development Officer / Social Welfare Department of State Government) by the physically challenged candidates.
5. Sports and Games Certificate of participation are required for quota and special weightage consideration, from the competent Authority (Director of Sports / Sports Council of the Utkal University) countersigned by the Principal / HOD of the college / department by the candidates interested to apply under the said category.
6. Certificate shall be produced from the Rajya / Zilla Sainik Board by the applicants interested to apply under Ex/In-service quota.
7. Original application fee e-receipt.
8. Three passport size photographs (one to be fixed in the application form and two more copies to be attached with the form).

Utkal University Ph.D Admission Reservation

As per the Government of Odisha Notification and university guidelines:

22.5% of seats shall be reserved for Scheduled Tribe students.
16.25% of seats shall be reserved for Scheduled Caste students.
1 seat is reserved for candidate with national sports certificate
3% of the total seats shall be reserved for the candidates with disabilities.

You have to contact the respective department. One of my friends who was preparing for the MFC exam got all the questions from the office of the Department of Commerce. They may charge you but it is a very reasonable amount. It also depends on whether the department is giving the questions. For example, the MBA Department does not give any question papers for certain reasons.

Here is how you can get your transcripts from BPUT. From the BPUT website, download the application form for transcripts. Write a covering letter to the director/principal of your college and state the reasons why you require your transcripts. Make demand draft according to the number of transcripts you require. Print out the application requirement of the college you are applying. Visit your college and get all the above papers verified and signed by your college director/principal. At the BPUT Rourkela office, apply in person for the transcripts with all the verified documents. The university usually takes 7 days to process the request. You can collect the transcripts after that.

I have a few friends from Utkal University, who used to stay in hostels. According to them, you can go out of hostels. You need to be back before the notified time in the evening. If you need to stay out beyond the curfew time, you will have to get permission from the superintendent or the deputy superintendent. If you need to stay out of the hostel for more than one day you will have to apply through proper channel. In case of departmental occasions like freshers’ party or annual day, you can stay out late. An application forwarded by the departmental head will be enough.
