Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishvavidyalaya - [SJSV] was established on 7th July in the Year of 1981 at the holy land of Lord Jagannath, fulfilling the long aspirations of the Sanskrit lovers of the state, by the Chief Minister of Odisha Prajnana Vachaspati Sj. Janaki Ballabh Pattanayak, an eminent scholar of Sanskrit. There are 142 Sanskrit institutions of the state including 5 Mahavidyalayas and 137 Vidyalayas , Pathshalas offering Prathama , Upashastri , Madhyama , Shastri & Acharya In this Vishvavidyalaya. It is the third Sanskit University of the country next to Sampurnananda Sanskrit University of Benaras and Kameswar Singh Sanskrit University of Darabhanga.
Researches: The Vishvavidyalaya has a glorious record of mainly three Projects in the field of research in Sanskrit:
- Compilation of Encyclopedia of religion
- Collection and publication of palm leaf manuscripts
- Advance studies on Lord Jagnnath
Centre of Advance Research in Sanskrit (CARS): Vishvavidyalaya was founded with a noble cause to preserve, protect and promote the ancient culture and heritage of Sanskrit literature. Government released fund of 15.00 Lakh Rs. for running the Research Centre which was renamed ‘Centre of Advance Research in Sanskrit’ (CARS) is to achieve outstanding research excellence. CARS has published thirteen volumes of Research journals named “Jagannath Jyoti” and 33 books in regular intervals till today.
