NEHU Shillong M.Sc. Eligibility Criteria

The University offers M.Sc. in the following courses:

Anthropology	Zoology
Botany/Plant Molecular Biology	Statistics
Biotechnology	Physics
Biochemistry	Mathematics
Chemistry	Geography
Environmental Science	Economics

To seek admission in the M.Sc. program, candidates must have 3-year Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject or its equivalent. The course-wise eligibility is given below:

M.Sc. in Anthropology- Candidate with major in Anthropology, Geography, Sociology, Zoology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Home Science and Mass Communication are eligible to apply.
M.Sc. in Statistics- Graduate with Statistics (Major) and Mathematics as a pass subject, graduate with Mathematics (Major) and Statistics as a pass subject or B.A./B.Sc. with Mathematics and Statistics as pass subjects. In addition, students with P.G. Diploma in Statistics of NEHU may also apply if they have Mathematics as Majors or Pass subject.
M.Sc. in Environmental Science- Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree (Majors) in Environmental Science /Botany /Zoology /Chemistry / Biotechnology /Biochemistry /Geography /Geology/Forestry are eligible to apply.
M.Sc. in Botany/Plant Molecular Biology- B.Sc.(Majors) Botany/Biotechnology/Biochemistry/Microbiology/Chemistry (with Botany/Zoology/Chemistry/Biochemistry as one of the papers).
M.Sc. in Biotechnology– Candidates with a B.Sc. degree in Biotechnology are eligible to apply.

NEHU Shillong M.Sc. Selection Process

Admission will be based on the candidate's performance in the CUET PG conducted by NTA.

After the declaration of the CUET PG result, qualifying candidates will proceed for the Group Discussion.
Those who will qualify GD round will appear in the final stage of selection- Interview.
Shortlisted candidates will be considered for admission.

Application Procedure

The candidates can apply for admission through the university’s official website. Students are required to visit the website and fill the application form.

Candidates have to pay an application fee of INR. 500/- at the time online form submission. Candidates belonging to the reserved category must pay the application fees of INR. 250/-

The fees can be paid online via Debit/Credit Card or Net Banking or through the payment gateway.

Steps to Apply:

Visit the official website of NEHU Shillong.
Click on the Online Application Portal.
Register by filling the required details such as Name, Gender, Date of Birth and Email Id.
Proceed to fill the application form.
Enter the information with careful scrutiny.
Pay the application fees of INR. 500/- (INR 250/- for SC/ ST).
Upload all the required documents.
Verify all the information and click on the submit button.

The candidates are advised to print multiple copies of the application for future reference.

Note: Students are requested to provide their Bachelor’s degree marks in percentage (instead of CGPA) in the application form.

How good is North Eastern Hill University (NEHU)?

North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has a very peaceful environment and extremely friendly people. This institute can be good but it does not meet the expectations in terms of providing quality education.

If you don’t want to struggle in your work-life, it will be wise not to choose NEHU. One of my friends is a faculty there and she is not happy with the academic environment and work culture at the institute.

Besides all the bad reviews there are a few departments that are decent.

School of Technology is a new addition to NEHU. It still has a lot to improve. It lacks the competitive environment and a Techfest of its own that a good technical institute should have. However, currently, it is better than various other private colleges in India. Besides, this department is bestowed with a handful of skilled faculty.
According to various student reviews, the Department of Botany and Zoology are good; and the Department of Physics, Mathematics, Economics, and Chemistry are average.

Lastly, it has a diverse nature of students and comes with an extremely beautiful campus.

What are the benefits of studying at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU)?

The environment at NEHU is unique. It is a sort of mix of both Indian English Medium of education, American style,and a slice of mainland Indians, the most important touch of British back then. Here is a brief highlight of the institute.

It is the oldest Central University in North East India.
One of the few 'A' grade universities in the region.
Consists of many departments of different fields including Arts, Science & Commerce.
Faculties are good & experienced.
The campus is very big and beautiful as it is located in Meghalaya.

Here, learning in such an environment is really amazing. It is just not about academics but learning in nature makes you more focused.

How is Assam University Silchar for a BTech as compared to AEC and NEHU?

Among these three the best college will be AEC (Assam Engineering College) and here are some reasons to justify it.

AEC is completely an engineering college, but the other two are schools for engineering under their respective universities. AEC gets its funds from the state government and it is given solely for the purpose in the engineering field, but the other two institutes receive their funds from the central government and it gets divided among all the departments available in the university.
AEC is now a pioneer in the field of engineering as it has completed more than 60 years of its existence but the other two universities are very new in the field of engineering. It has also built a very strong alumni network within these 60 years of offering engineering courses.
As it is located in Guwahati, it has many advantages over NEHU and especially Assam University. It is located in Silchar and there are many connectivities and traveling problems due to which many companies don't visit the campus during placements. In 2020, placement drive it offered salary packages upto 10 LPA.
In AEC, the lab facilities available are very good and are much better in comparison to NEHU and Assam University.
In these 60 years of existence, AEC has established a very good reputation all over the country with its excellent academics and placements and most of the top scorers prefer to choose AEC over the other two to pursue their engineering.

Hence, if you're interested in pursuing engineering, then choosing AEC will be a very good option as this college has a very good reputation and experience in this field and offers very good facilities and placements to its students.

Does NEHU provide B.A in mass communication?

North-Eastern Hill University doesn’t provide BA in Mass Communication. The department of Journalism and Mass Communication of NEHU offers a Masters's in Jurnalism and Mass Communication only. You need to have a bachelor's degree of three years or more in any discipline with at least 50% aggregate to apply for this course.
