International Institute for Population Sciences - [IIPS] was established in July 1956 under the joint sponsorship of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, the Government of India and the United Nations. Until 1970, the Institute was known as the Demographic Training and Research Center (DTRC). It was declared as ‘Deemed University’ on August 14, 1985.
IIPS Mumbai works under the administrative control of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. At present, the institute offers a cluster of courses in Population Sciences, Health and Research streams.
- IIPS conducts an online entrance test for granting admission in all the courses.
- For Master of Population Studies and M.Phil., the qualified students of the entrance test also need to appear in the Interview round.
- Admission to Ph.D., Integrated M.Phil/ Ph.D. (Full-Time and Part-Time) and Post Doctoral Fellowship Programme is based on entrance test, written test (research proposal) and personal interview.
- Selection for MA in Population Science (Distance Education) is done by a Selection Committee duly constituted by the Director of IIPS.
- IIPS conducts an offline entrance test for part-time Ph.D. Candidates must possess a work experience of 5-years for the course.
- Application can be filled online as well as offline on the official portal by aspiring candidates.
