Course Description

Gokhale Institute of Politics & Economics offers its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Program in Economics, Population Studies, Agricultural Economics, Law & Economics, Public Policy and Sociology. Read about GIPE Courses & Fee. Candidates with a Master's Degree in Economics/Agricultural Economics/Population Studies/Law and Economics/Public Policy/Sociology with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/VJNT/DTNT) from a recognized Institution are eligible to apply for the admission process.

Admission to the GIPE PhD Program will be based on the entrance examination conducted by GIPE. M.phil degree holders and UGC-NET/JRF/SET qualifiers will be Exempted from the Written Exam.

The last date for application submission is May 31, 2023. Application forms for the entrance examination can be downloaded from the official website of the institution. Application fee should be paid through Demand Draft of INR 3000/- (INR 1500/- for Reserved Category & Candidate belonging to Maharashtra).

Gokhale Institute of Politics & Economics PhD Eligibility Criteria

Post-Graduate Degree in Economics/Agricultural Economics/Population Studies/Law and Economics/Public Policy/Sociology with a minimum of 55% marks (unreserved candidates) & 50%(reserved candidates/residents of Maharashtra) from a recognised University is the eligibility criteria.

Gokhale Institute of Politics & Economics PhD Admission Process

Selection will be entirely based on the Written Entrance Exam and Interview.

Exemption from the Written Test-

M.Phil Degree from a recognised University (Not through Distance Education).
Qualified at the UGC-NET/JRF/SLET/teacher fellowship holders.

Qualified candidates of the Written Test and candidates who are exempted from the Written Test shall be required to appear for an interview to present/discuss their research proposal/area of interest.

The merit list will have the names of admitted students with Provisional Registration.
Provisional Registration shall be confirmed upon successful completion of the prescribed pre-Ph.D course work.

Enter Academic Qualifications.
Mention the subject of Ph.D.
Draw a Demand Draft in favour of Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics of INR 3000/-(unreserved category)& INR 1500/-(unreserved category/resident of Maharashtra).
Post the Application Form and D.D. along with the Self Attested required Documents.

50% Reservation is for students belonging to the Backward Castes/Tribes followed up by the students having domicile in Maharashtra.

The rest of the seats are Unreserved and can increase in case of seats in the reserved category remained unoccupied.

Ans. Yes, GIPE PhD students avail of the facility of 3 hostels. One is for boys and 2 are for girls’ accommodations. The rooms are distributed on sharing basis. The GIPE hostels include the facility of wifi internet connection, solar hot water, cot, table, chair, curtains, mirror, individual cupboards, etc.

Seminar Hall and Auditorium: The GIPE PhD students can access the facility of the seminar hall with a capacity of 70 seats. Moreover, a conference room is also established with a seating capacity of 20 persons.
Computer lab: The computer lab is equipped with 40 computers and a wifi facility. The lab provides multipurpose technology and a collaborative workspace.
