Central Institute of Fisheries Education can be called as the national leader on fisheries education in India. Established in 6th June 1961 by Government of India and established with an aim of imparting higher education and research and training opportunities to the in-service fisheries personnel of the country to support the fisheries developmental activities.

The college offers courses under Masters and Research level for different subjects and also provides various types of training programmes ranging from 3-7 days short term programs to 6-12 months long term programs for various client groups as fishers, farmers, entrepreneurs, faculty, industry representatives, students, research scholars, etc.

Admission to both the masters and research programmes is based on the merit list prepared on the basis of the mark scored at the entrance examination conducted by the college for admission. 

The institute has an updated version of the technologies for the field of aquaculture, breeding, feed technology, health management, genetics and processing. Their aim is to make the technological tools available to the local people who are a part of fish farmings, entrepreneurs and other developmental agencies.

M.F.Sc program Duration: 2 Years
Eligibility Criteria: Candidates having degree in Bachelors in Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc) under 10+2+4 system with at least 60% marks in aggregate. Or Candidate having an equivalent degree with 5 years experience in the state department service .

CIFE Mumbai Admission

Admission to M.V.Sc. is done through a Combined examination and then counselling on the basis of merit in the examination for the admission to 100% seats of M.F.Sc

Admission to Ph.D. is based on the merit of All India Competitive Written Examinations and followed by personal interview.

How to Apply?

  • Candidates can visit the official website of the college and download the application form.
  • One applicant can fill only one application form.
  • All the relevant documents should be attached to the application form and submitted to the college before the prescribed time and date.
  • Candidates are required to pay the admission fees of INR 1000 for the General and OBC categories and INR 500 for the SC/ST/ Disabled persons through online mode before filling the application form.

  • The Institute is well equipped with all the latest technology to provide the efficient and effective techniques and training through the regular programmes.
  • Field centres and Farm Facilities: Under CIFE, there are four centres in all over India that all are well equipped with all the facilities and amenities to give them a high level of experiential entrepreneurship education and training related all the fields and to have a hands-on experience of all the work, farm facility is also provided to them from time to time.
  • Other educational facilities like classrooms and laboratories are well equipped with modern day technology and audio-visual aids. The college campus is providing Wi-Fi facilities for all the students and teachers who are working. They have a modern auditorium, conference hall, committee room that are equipped with the latest technology so that all the meetings , events, cultural events and seminars can be arranged well on time.
  • CIFE has two fishing vessels namely MFV Saraswati (OAL-36m) which is equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS), Very High Frequency Radio (VHFR), Radiotelephone (RP), Echo Sonar and Trawl eye and MFV Narmada (OAL-11m) so that they can support its on-board research and training programmes on fishing, navigation, oceanography and other such areas as well.
  •  They have excellent facilities for supporting the physical development of the students like for sports and for other recreational activities like for international standard modern badminton courts, tennis, volleyball and basketball courts. Besides these, many indoor games facilities are also provided like for table tennis, chess, carom etc. They organise sports meets and other events as well to keep up the level of sporting level in the students and other staff members as well.
  • CIFE maintains a collection of a variety of fin fishes and shell fishes and other aquatic animals in an aquarium facility in the college.
  • 2 boys’ hostels and 1 girl’s hostel, Staff residences and guest houses are also available for the students and staff members.
  • Laboratory facilities are very well arranged and equipped with all the tools and instruments that are important for the training and practical classes. It includes an Electron microscope laboratory, Zebrafish Breeding Facilities and Aquatic Radioecology Lab.
