Master of Science in Bioinformatics Top Colleges, Syllabus, Scope and Salary

M.Sc. in Bioinformatics is a 2- year full-time program divided into 4 semesters. Bioinformatics most often work as researchers within the discipline of Molecular Biology, applying Information Technology to manage and organize large databases of biological data on the molecular level.

M.Sc. in Bioinformatics is an advanced degree in the relatively new field of Bioinformatics, which is a specialty within the discipline of Molecular Biology. Bioinformatics involves the application of computer science, statistics, and engineering to research and interpret biological data, in undertakings such as the Human Genome Project. At its most basic, Bioinformatics applies information technology to biological molecular data on a large scale.

Students enrolled to the course are imparted skills needed in the interpretation of biological data at the molecular level, and in database organization. The applications of advanced math and information technology to this data allow researchers to understand data relationships in a way that was previously not possible.

Successful postgraduates of the course are hired in pharmaceutical companies, research laboratories in academia or industry, and in fields as diverse as agriculture, development of personal care products, genotyping, gene sequencing, and database design and maintenance, among others such.

Ideal candidates for the course would have interest in, and aptitude for molecular biology and have advanced computational skills.

The average annual course fee in India ranges between INR 1,000 and 4 lacs, depending upon the institute offering the course. The average annual salary offered in India to successful postgraduates of the course ranges between INR 3 and 8 lacs, depending upon the candidate’s expertise in the field.

When it comes to leniency, MG University tops the list. The evaluation process here is quite liberal compared to other universities. You get multiple questions to choose from. It allows you to choose as many as 40 colleges at the time of allotment.

Kerala University, on the other hand, is well known for its harsh evaluation and unfriendly student policies. It believes in the orthodox methods of evaluation. Many times the exams are scheduled earlier than usual despite the syllabus still standing incomplete. Certain times a major percentage of students failed courses like BA (Hons) in English.

Calicut University has a major drawback of frequent postponement of exams and result declaration dates.

In the end, you must know that marks are not what defines your education. Your knowledge, teaching procedures, faculty, curricular activities, and general ambience of the university have a lot more to do with your education than any other things. If you are open to challenges then Kerala University is the best option for you.

Kerala University is comparably better than MG. It is better recognized in the industry. Other than this there are no such major differences between the two universities. The university offers decent academic sand placements. According to the recent highlights of Kerala University placements, students receive a median CTC of around INR 2.1 LPA.
