Course Description

CUSAT BTech offers a full time 4year BTech program under 11 specializations. The admissions are based on the CUSAT CAT entrance exam. The minimum eligibility criteria is to secure a minimum of 60% in 10+2 examinations.

CUSAT B.Tech Eligibility Criteria

Students seeking admission into the B.Tech course must have completed their 10+2 in the Science stream with a minimum of 60% marks as an aggregate. Students belonging to the reserved category are provided with a relaxation of 5% in the aggregate marks.

Students seeking admission must qualify in the following.

Candidates are selected on the basis of their performance in the CUSAT CAT Examination, conducted by the institute.

How to Apply?

Visit the official website of the college.
Select the New Candidate Registration by submitting the details correctly and later on activate the link for creating the user account.
Click on the start registration and start filling in the personal and academic details.
Upload a passport size photograph and signature.
Choose the UG program and ensure all the details are filled in correctly.
A short review of the submitted details is provided so you can again view if all the details are correct or not. After this review is observed you cannot edit the details.
Do the payment of the Application form after confirming the review and submit the form.

CUSAT B.Tech Course Details

Approved by the Academic Council the curriculum and syllabus for B. Tech programs is prepared. It consists of General Core courses, Engineering Core courses, Elective courses, Humanities courses, and projects or seminars. All the branches follow a credit system for calculating the marks.

Course work extends for four years that is eight semesters.
The curriculum comprises a total of 176 credits.
Continuous assessments, assignments, and attendance are calculated for the total marks.
The performance of students is analyzed with the end-term examination conducted in each semester.

Ques. What are the Scholarships provided for BTech students at CUSAT?

Ans. Cochin University Welfare Association provides scholarships and financial assistance to the students. Based on the income, marks, state, and academic performance the students are provided with a waiver of the tuition fee. Rank openers and students on the merit list are also offered scholarships so that they can continue their studies.

Ques. Is CUSAT good for BTech?

Ans. After IIT's and NIT's, CUSAT is the best college to join. Being a Government college you have all the facilities and good academics offered. You get to experience at hands. Many workshops and activities are held and organized by the college so you can gain practical and Industrial skills. Placement opportunities are well provided by top most companies. So you will never regret joining CUSAT.

Ques. What is the pattern of the CUSAT Examination for the BTech admissions?

Ans. The Test consists of 250 multiple choice questions purely based on the +2 syllabus which is to be solved within a period of 180 minutes. The distribution of the number of questions per section is given below:

Mathematics: 125 questions
Physics: 75 questions
Chemistry: 50 questions

A minimum of 10 marks in each subject is mandatory for being qualified in the exam to be included in the rank list.

For correct answers, three marks are awarded and one mark is deducted for each wrong answer.

Ques. Is the CUSAT Examination tougher than JEE Main?

Ans. It is tough but not more than the JEE Mains. Anyways you prepare for JEE after your 12th and that preparation is enough to crack the entrance exam. It’s not about the tough or easy part. It's about the hard work and preparation you do to attend the exam. When you prepare well nothing is going to be difficult for you.

Ques. Can I change my branch after the first year in CUSAT BTech?

Ans. Yes, you can. Every college provides options for you to choose the interested branch. Usually, GPA is taken under consideration while changing. Unlike other colleges, CUSAT takes your CAT score for consideration. So you don’t have to worry even if your GPA is less.

There are various “no choice” situations studying at CUSAT. Here are some of them. One of the best things about CUSAT is the uniform. You don’t need to worry about repeating your dresses. You just need to wake up in the morning, wear that shirt and move to the classes. There is no need to change the outfit even if anyone is sleepy and move ahead to the next class without any fuss. Next, there are very few places nearby to visit. One can only have comfort at their flats. The language is way different and the locals of those areas do not understand a bit. People speak up a lot of things in the face of other people as they are unable to understand the language. The location is one of the best things when you wake up in the morning as it is serene. You can browse the areas at night. Students were often found playing badminton at midnights. There are frequent strikes in the area. In terms of the future, CUSAT usually provides decent opportunities at good places for their students. These are some of the things I heard from my friends at the institute. Hope this helps.

Well, the minimum percentage required for a student in class 12th Bihar board exam to get admission in the CUSAT depends upon the field you choose. If we see in fields such as Instrumentation Technology, Marine Engineering, etc all require different eligibility criteria. Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech in Instrumentation Technology: Passed class 12th or equivalent examination from any state or national board in India, with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry took together. Secured 55% marks in 12th or equivalent overall. B.Tech. in Naval Architecture & Ship Building: Passed class XII or equivalent from Kerala or any other board/university accepted by CUSAT with minimum aggregate marks of 60% (Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics mandatory) and secured a score of at least 50% marks in Mathematics separately. They are also required to have scored minimum aggregate marks of 50% in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry in class XII or equivalent. B.Tech in Polymer Science & Engineering: Passed class 12 from the state of Kerala with Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry as optional subjects. Candidates must have passed any other examination accepted by the university as equivalent thereto with at least 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and 50% marks in Mathematics separately. B.Tech in Marine Engineering: Secured at least 60% aggregate marks in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry in Class XII or equivalent. CUSAT helps to get a number of opportunities and is definitely a good place to start your career. If you are not from native Kerala, then you may find some difficulties and you need to adjust in terms of food, surrounding, language, and many other things. But with time things will get easier as there are some great people out there who will help you with everything. Here are some of the tips that may help you. College: You need to work hard if you want to survive here. It is important to attend the lectures, make assignments, and score well on the tests. The college is very serious about attendance. The course curriculum is almost the same for all the branches in the first year. But there have been reports of ragging in the college campus as well as its hostel. Location: Kerala is a nice place. The weather is almost the same throughout the year. Umbrella is very important as it gets rainy anytime throughout day and night. The transport facilities are good. Both roadways and railways are a mode of transport. Buses are also available for travel throughout the state. If you are from outside of Kerala you may need to learn some common important terms in the language. Food: It might be difficult for the students to adjust in the terms of food. Especially, the vegetarians have to adjust a little bit more as vegetarian food is less available. There are a lot of things to explore in Kerala and it is a great opportunity to get to this place and enjoy it every bit.
