Tumkur University is accepting application forms for the Ph.D. Admissions 2023. Last date to apply for phd program is March 10, 2023. Entrance test will be held on March 16, 2023.


Tumkur University was established in 2004 and is situated in the state of Karnataka. It is a state University which is accredited by NAAC with 'B' Grade. The University has been successful in being recognized as an Institute of National Eminence by the UGC. Recently, the university has been rated as a 'Three Star' institution under the Karnataka State Universities Rating Framework (KSURF) released by the Karnataka State Higher Education Council, Bengaluru


Tumkur University offers a number of courses at the UG, PG and doctorate level. The University has 24 postgraduate departments, 19 undergraduate departments, 2 constituent colleges, and 94 Affiliated Colleges. 

It established 29 research centres to promote advanced multidisciplinary research and academic collaborations. Applications are released during the month of May for UG and doctorate courses, and the month of July for PG courses. Students can submit their application within three weeks after the notification.

The selection for the UG courses will be done on the basis of academic merit. The admission to PG courses will be based on the counselling process. For MBA and MCA, the admission will be given directly through KEA, Bengaluru. For all the Ph.D. courses, the candidates have to appear for the entrance examination and personal interview.

Tumkur University offers eight courses at UG level which include BA, B.Sc., B.Com., BFA, BSW, BCA(Computer Applications), B.Ed., B.P.Ed. (Physical Education) as its flagship programme.

Note: 

  • Candidates must be of the age – at least 17 years old at the time of applying.
  • The candidate must have passed / currently pursuing final year of the qualifying examination, i.e. the +2 level from CBSE / ISC / State Board or the equivalent.
  • The subjects of study must be from the Science stream to be eligible for Social Work.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Candidates who have passed at 10+2 level with minimum 50% from any recognized board are considered eligible to get admission in BA, B.Sc., BFA, BSW, B.Com., B.Ed., B.P.Ed. Courses.
  • Students who have passed at 10+2 with minimum 50% from the science stream with computer and mathematics as the main subjects from any recognized board are considered eligible for BCA course.

Selection Criteria

  • The selection is done on the basis of merit list. 
  • Shortlisted candidates on the basis of their marks obtained in class 12 are considered for admission and called for the document verification process.
  • Selection will be made on the basis of the candidate’s performance in the past academic records.

How to Apply?

  • Candidates can obtain the application form by paying INR 250/- (INR 125/- for SC/ST).
  • Application form can also be obtained via post by sending a self addressed envelope to ''Registrar, Tumkur University, Tumkur" along with a demand draft in favor of "Finance Officer, Tumkur University, Tumkur".

At the PG level, Tumkur University offers an MBA and MCA for a duration of two years and three years respectively.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The minimum eligibility requirement MCA program is Passed BCA with 50% marks from any recognized university.
  • To be eligible for MBA , the candidates must possess a minimum of 50% marks in Graduation.

Selection Criteria

MBA & MCA selection is directly done through Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), Bengaluru. Applicants seeking admission need to appear in the PGCET-MBA/MCA test for getting admission to MBA/MCA programmes. This test is conducted for both the Karnataka residents as well as for residents of other states too.

How to Apply?

  • The application form for admissions to the MBA/MCA programme is available on the official website of the university.
  • The application has to be filled directly on the website.
  • After filling the details in the application form, applicants can download the bank challan for the payment of INR 800.
  • SC/ST applicants need to pay INR 400 as application fee.

  • Candidates who have completed graduation in any discipline with minimum 50% marks are considered eligible for MA, MSW, M.Sc. courses.
  • The minimum eligibility requirement M.Com. is that a candidate must pass at the undergraduate level with a B.Com. or B.B.A. degree from a recognized university with minimum 50% marks.

Selection Criteria

The selection will be done through Counselling based on merit, except for MA in Mass communication.. For admission to PG courses, candidates have to appear for a written test which is conducted by the university itself. 

  • Listed candidates on the basis of their marks in the entrance test are called for the personal interview round. Final selection is based on the overall performance of the candidate.
  • As for MA in Mass Communication and Journalism, it will be based on the entrance test.

How to Apply?

  • Applicants seeking admission can obtain the application form from State Bank of Mysore, Tumkur University branch by paying INR 350 as application fee through challan.
  • Apart from this, applicants can also obtain a form by sending a DD of INR 350 drawn in favour of the “Finance Officer, Tumkur University payable at Tumkur along with an A4 size self-addressed envelope affixing a stamp of INR 50 to the given address.

Basic Eligibility Criteria Candidates should have a Master’s Degree in the relevant discipline with minimum 55% marks. A candidate with M.Phil. degree from Tumkur University is also eligible for the Ph.D. program.

Key points for admission- A 5% relaxation (i.e. 50% minimum) is given to those from reserved categories.

  • Candidates will be given two application forms for filling, Form A and Form B.
  • The candidates who have not passed UGC/ CSIR (JRF)/ SLET/ K-SET/ GATE or teaching fellowship have to fill Form A.
  • Candidates who have passed UGC/ CSIR (JRF)/ SLET/ K-SET/ GATE or teaching fellowship have to fill Form B.
  • Candidates who have passed UGC/ CSIR (JRF)/ SLET/ K-SET/ GATE or teaching fellowship are not required to give the Entrance test. Their performance in the qualifying examination will then be given increased weightage. But, if they wish to give the entrance test, then they have to fill Form A and pay separate application fees.
  • Candidates who will fill form B will be shortlisted on the basis of following weightage:
    Interview: Master’s degree = 50 : 50

  • Tumkur University Ph.D. Admission is done through an entrance test followed by a personal interview.

Remarks:

The eligibility of the course I took is BSc in chemistry as a compulsory subject and the cut-off depends on how many persons applied to the course and minimum cut-off is 75% on Tumkur university's official web page you will find a link to apply. Yes, reservations there of all types such as kannada medium, NCC, rural candidate etc.., Yes there is a cloud during the admission time if possible counselling is to held in thier own Departments
