One of my friends graduated from NLSIU and here are the things I got to know from him. It could be considerably tough and you might not get what you expect.

  • The minimum and sufficient time for preparing for CLAT, for getting admission to NLSIU Bangalore are 5 months.
  • If you receive proper guidance and are focused, you can score well in the legal aptitude and the GK section.
  • You should get 35 to 38 out of 50 in legal aptitude and 40 to 45 in GK.
  • In the GK portion, 30 to 40 questions are there relating to current affairs.
  • For math 10 to 12 out of 20 is good enough.
  • Solve previous years' papers, to get an idea about your strengths and weaknesses.
  • You can look upon some compendium of the coaching like CLAT possible or Career launcher.
  • Solve the career launcher questions for CLAT that will be helpful.

The most important thing is to know the syllabus. Then go through the current affairs. Solve the maths portion from the previous paper.

Don't read GK from Lucent, Arihant, and don't read history. In legal aptitude, the most important thing is the previous year's question.

Due to the pandemic, NLSIU Bangalore started taking classes online. Before the Covid-19 break-out, a typical day at NLSIU Bangalore used to look something like the following.

  • There used to be regular classes between 8:50 am to 1:30 pm.
  • On campus, you will find students doing their own thing. Some people hang out and read in the library. Others go to the gym or take part in some sports activities. You will also find students engaged in moots, legal aid, or a research assistantship. There are also frequent talks, conferences, credit courses that take place on the campus.
  • During the project submission time, you will find students sitting in the library and working on their research papers for 10-12 hours at a stretch.

In your fourth or fifth year, you can go for exchange programs to universities in the US, Europe, or Singapore. A selected few of these programs are funded by external scholarships. While most of these are self-financed. If you have the required CGPA, profile, and work experience, you can also apply for Ivy-league law schools. ‘NLSIU’ is a well-recognized name in these universities. Students also go abroad for moots, MUNs, debates during their course.

As most of these LLM graduates start off on the academic side of things, the pay grade is equivalent to that mandated by the UGC for all institutions in all states. You can get a job role for an Assistant Professor or the likes.

However, this does not stand true for Private Institutes that hire LLM graduates. They most times than not, do not pay more than the government institutes. But it all depends on your personal choice and the kind of work environment you would like to be in.

You can always consult with the immediate batches to understand the current standings on the placement front. Connect with them one-to-one and you might get a better and clearer idea of what to expect.

Usually, six of India’s major corporate law firms offer around 1,00,000 to 1,15,000 as a monthly remuneration at the entry level. Apart from that, there is generally a yearly bonus of around 1 to 2 Lacs.

An average entry-level associate usually earns around 14 Lakhs Per Annum which is a good amount nonetheless. Apart from that, there are a variety of other institutes that pay somewhat in the same range, if not equal.

Only recently, there are multiple mid-tier firms that are generating comparable packages. However, foreign law firms comparably pay a higher amount. The packages sometimes range around INR 40,00,000 per annum. In simple words, this is the basic remuneration they generate for fresh graduates, which gets higher with your experience.

The opportunities are open equally for different law schools, let alone NLSIU and NALSAR.

  • You can also join the legal team of some firms.
  • If you are interested in pursuing higher studies, you can pursue LLM, MBA, CA, or any other post-graduate course that interests you.

These are the career options after graduating from NLSIU Bangalore.

One of my friends graduated from NLSIU and after reading some online reviews by the alumni here are the things that I came to know about.

  • You can intern at law firms like Fox Mandal, Amarchand and Mangaldas, Trilegal, Khaitan & co., J Sagar and associates, AZB Partners, Luthra and Luthra, Dua associates, etc.
  • These are the top law firms that deal with corporate law, merger and acquisitions, real estate, capital funds, private equity, energy law, and many more.
  • You can also try smaller law firms at the beginning of your career and then keep moving to the bigger and better ones.
  • Explore different fields of law for a better understanding of the course in the final year.
  • Try criminal, civil, corporate, IPR, arbitration, etc., and be ready to face any work from these fields.

You can also contact your NLSIU seniors or lecturers as they will have the better, more appropriate information to suggest better ideas and places.

National Law School of India University (NLSIU),Bangaloreis often considered the best law college in this country. It would be advised to you that even if you get this college at the age of 20 you should just go for it. There should not be any age bar for learning and achieving anything.

Bachelors of Arts + Bachelor of Law (BALLB) is a five-year program and the students are admitted on the basis of score in CLAT.

It is highly advised that if you have not got into any college yet and is having second thoughts about taking a second-year drop, you should avoid doing that if you have a decent alternative law school.

According to some of the student reviews, I read online, I would say that the answer depends on your preparation for the entrance exam CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) if you wish to get into any National Law Schools/Universities in India.

Every exam is competitive since there are so many other students appearing for the exam along with you. NLSIU's intake is very minimal when compared to others. Its syllabus is quite challenging and the students there get prepared as quite good lawyers.

Roughly, you will have to make sure that you rank in the first 50 in All India Rank (AIR) if you belong to the general category, and you get a little more margin if you belong to any reservation category.
