Course Description

IGNOU M.Sc. admission 2024 for the January session is expected to start in the month of December 2023. The last date to apply is January 31, 2024 (Tentative). Interested candidates can apply online on the official website of IGNOU @ignou.ac.in. Admissions will be granted based on marks secured in the qualifying examination.

IGNOU offers a 2-year Master’s in Science (M.Sc) with three specializations - Counseling & Family Therapy, Food & Nutrition, and Mathematics with Applications in Computer Science at the postgraduate level. All of them are offered through online mode under Open Learning and Distance Education by the School of Inter-Disciplinary and Trans-Disciplinary Studies. The maximum duration of the course can extend up to 5 years. IGNOU Admission to M.Sc program is based on academic performance during the bachelor’s degree. IGNOU M.Sc Course Highlights

With an aim to develop professionals in this vital field, MSCCFT has a theory, supervised practicum, internship, and dissertation as components.
Offering MSCCFT by the 38 regional centers under IGNOU, the course study of it is focused on the applied aspect and the thrust on opportunities for hands-on experience for the learner.
MSCDFSM is offered by 40 regional centers of IGNOU to provide the unique opportunity for higher education to learners to enrich their working lives.
MSCDFSM program has a provision of exit points for learners in the form of Post Graduate Diploma in Dietetics and Public Nutrition (PGDDPN) after successfully completing 30 credit course work and three months internship program with 16 credits.

IGNOU M.Sc Eligibility Criteria

The candidate should have passed a Bachelor’s degree with Science in a relevant stream from any recognized university for getting admission into IGNOU M.Sc. Given below is the course-wise eligibility criteria for the M.Sc program:

For M.Sc in Food and Nutrition (MSCDFSM):

B.Sc. (Home Science) specialization in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics and Clinical Nutrition

Or,

PG Diploma in Dietetics and Public Health Nutrition

Or,

MBBS, BHHS in Home Science/ Food Science and Technology, Life Science, Microbiology Health Care, Medical, Pharmaceutical Catering

For M.Sc in Counselling and Family Therapy (MSCCFT):

Bachelor’s degree with a specialization in subjects like Human Development and Family Studies, Child Development, Human Development & Childhood Studies, Child Development & Family Relationships, Home Science, Psychology, Social Work, Medicine

Or,

“Allied disciplines” include Anthropology, Sociology, Education, Philosophy, MBBS. Or Bachelor’s Degree along with a Post Graduate Diploma in Guidance and Counselling

For M.Sc in Mathematics with Applications in Computer Science (MACS):

Graduate with a Major, or Honours in Mathematics with minimum 50% marks in aggregate

IGNOU M.Sc Admission Process

Admissions to the M.Sc program at IGNOU will be done on the basis of merit in the last qualifying examination. The selection process for the M.Sc program at IGNOU is purely merit-based. Candidates are enrolled at this university on the basis of merit secured in Graduation in the relevant subject.

University's admission committee will release the merit list on the basis of marks secured in the qualifying examination.
Shortlisted candidates have to visit the Regional Office/ Study Center with all required documents.
Document verification and payment of program fees will confirm admission.

How to Apply?

Necessary steps to apply online for admission into M.Sc at the IGNOU:

Visit the official website of IGNOU @ http://ignou.ac.in/
Click on the “ Register Online” tab and select the “Fresh Admission” menu.
Redirect to another tab and there will be two options “Registered User Login” and “Click Here for New Registration”.
Click on “ New Registration” and fill in the required registration details.
After filling in all the necessary information, click on the “SUBMIT” button.
Instantly the username will be sent to the registered email id & phone number.
Re-login using the login credentials.
Then, the candidates are required to enter personal details, education qualification details, and course details.
After filling the application form, candidates have to pay the application fee through Credit Card/ Debit Card/ Net Banking/ UPI.
Then, submit the duly filled application form and take a printout of it.

IGNOU M.Sc Assignments

Assignments constitute continuous evaluation. The marks that you secure in the assignments will be counted in your final result. As mentioned earlier, an assignment of a course carries 30% weightage. You are therefore advised to take your assignment seriously.

Non Submission of Assignment

The TMA for each semester can be downloaded from the Student Zone of the University website. You have to complete the assignment within the due dates specified in the assignment booklet. You will not be allowed to appear for the term-end examination for any course if you do not submit the assignment in time for that course. If you appear in the term-end examination, without submitting the assignments, the result of the term-end examination is liable to be canceled.

IGNOU M.Sc FAQs

Ques. A student studied Mathematics as one of the subjects in B.Sc/ BCA/ MCA or an engineering degree. Is he eligible for IGNOU M.Sc in MACS?

Ans. No, the student is not eligible for the M.Sc in Mathematics with Applications in Computer Science course as the Mathematics taught in all the above cases is specialized for a particular purpose and does not include all the topics covered in Mathematics honor courses. MACS requires honors-level knowledge of Mathematics.

Ques. Is the IGNOU M.Sc degree recognized?

Ans. IGNOU Degrees are recognized by all member universities of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and are at par with Degrees of all Indian Universities/ Institutions, as per UGC and AIU guidelines.

Ques. Can a student appear for the IGNOU M.Sc term-end examination anywhere in India?

Ans. Yes, a student can appear for the term-end theory examination anywhere in India at any of the IGNOU centers where examinations are being held. But they can appear for the practical exam only in the study center to which they are attached.

Ques. Are the practical compulsory for IGNOU M.Sc?

Ans. Yes, all the prescribed practical sessions are compulsory to complete. Students have to prepare the file for each session. Without completing at least 70% of the sessions in the prescribed course, the student will not be allowed to appear for the practical examination of the course. Without clearing the practical examination, a course practical component is not complete.

Ques. Is the fee of IGNOU M.Sc. very expensive?

Ans. The fee is not too expensive for the M.Sc courses at IGNOU. Anyone can afford it. The fee for the M.Sc program at IGNOU are as follows:
