• The Department has particular strengths in biological chemistry and organic synthesis, computational and theoretical chemistry, materials chemistry, biochemistry, bioinformatics, biotechnology, genetics, gene expression, molecular biology, microbiology, structural biology, neuroscience, pharmacology, toxicology, and biomolecular sciences. 
  • Each student has at least one supervisor and an advisor with pastoral responsibility.
  • The Department has outstanding facilities, with for example 9 high-resolution NMR spectrometers and 1 solid-state, 3 area detectors, and several powder systems for X-ray crystallography, and it hosts a national EPR service.
