• M.Phil in Biotechnology at the University of Cambridge is offered on a full-time basis for a duration of 11-months.
  • It is an on-campus, thesis-based program.
  • It is a unique program that draws on world-leading academics and industry champions to deliver an in-depth multidisciplinary curriculum at the interface of biology with physical sciences and technology.
  • In the first term, a core course in biotechnology is taken by all students and 6 advanced elective courses are also taken throughout the year.
  • The program provides all-round training covering four key learning areas:
    • core and advanced knowledge
    • practical skills
    • research skills and
    • transferable skills, including business-relevant competencies.
  • The number of lecture hours per week will vary throughout the year and will depend on the way the students tailor their studies by choosing the elective advanced courses. In total, students will attend approximately 165 hours of lectures throughout the program.
  • Students gain practical skills for wet-lab and computer-based work and develop competencies to become business-savvy scientists in the fast-growing biotechnology sector.
  • A practical course, involving demonstration sessions, computer-based cloning experiments, and wet-laboratory experiments, gives the students the opportunity to develop their practical and research skills.
  • At the beginning of the 8 months, students will be conducting their individual research projects within the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology or in other departments.
  • Students can also apply for a PhD place at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology or at other departments in the University.
