• Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine at the University of Cambridge is offered on a full-time basis for a duration of 3-4 Years.
  • This is an on-campus and research-based degree program.
  • This program is also offered on a part-time basis for a duration of 5-7 years.
  • Students get the opportunity to receive further training within the department in the form of postgraduate workshops concentrating on research techniques and research seminars.
  • The postgraduate student seminars dealing with generic skills such as intellectual property rights, writing a thesis or paper, and entrepreneurship.

  • All PhD students are required to submit a thesis of no more than 60,000 words within a maximum of four years of study. This is examined at a viva by two examiners, one internal and one external.
  • Students are required to undergo formal assessment (by written report and viva) at the end of their first year.
  • After successful completion, the student moves from being probationary to being registered for the PhD, and can proceed with their project.
  • The Department of Medicine is one of the largest of the departments in the School of Clinical Medicine.
