Remarks :
To qualify for this course, one must pass the NEST exam. The NEST exam is typically more challenging than JEE, with the cutoff usually extending up to AIR 400 for the gen category. There is a Section-wise Minimum Admissible Score (SMAS) requirement in the NEST exam, where candidates need to achieve the minimum specified score in three out of four sections to qualify. After clearing the exam, there is an offline counselling process and other formalities to complete. Application forms and additional details can be found on the NISER website. Course Curriculum Overview :
An integrated MSc program is an excellent option for droppers, especially as it culminates in a postgraduate degree. The curriculum emphasizes rigorous research and student development through components such as MSc thesis, specialized laboratories, and extensive journal readings. However, managing numerous quizes along with mid-semester and end-semester exams can be challenging. The level of difficulty varies depending on the professor, adding a variable element to the academic experience.
Internships Opportunities :
Internships are there since your first year. You can choose to intern under various professors across the country and even abroad. That's a personal choice to make. The expenditure during these internships are reimbursed by the institute.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :
Fees at NISER is 9800/- per semester for general category and OBC students, while it is 2300/- for others. Additionally, all students at NISER are eligible for the DISHA scholarship, which amounts to 5000 per month. Some students may also choose to opt for the INSPIRE scholarship. Furthermore, there isan internship grant of 20000 specifically designated for summer internships.
Campus Life :
NISER hosts several fests like TVISHA and UMANG, usually held in September and October. The library boasts thousands of books and students can access numerous journals using their NISER IDs. All classrooms are equipped with air conditioning, blackboards and projectors. Sports facilities include courts for basketball, badminton, tennis, and volleyball, as well as cricket and football grounds. A swimming pool is currently under construction. TT tables and carroms are also available. Additionally, NISER offers a variety of clubs focusing on activities such as coding, dancing, music, astronomy, and more, providing students with diverse extracurricular opportunities.
Hostel Facilities :
The accommodation at NISER includes both single (4th and 5th year) and double occupancy rooms (1st to 3rd year). Double Occupancy rooms are furnished with two beds, two small cupboards, two desks and chairs, two windows and shelves. Meals are average, but dinners are usually good. Hostel charges are inclusive in overall fees. Each hostel is well equipped with amenities such as TT tables, a common room with a TV, a badminton net, washing machines, a refrigerator and water coolers for the convenience of the students.
Faculty :
All faculty members are highly qualified, with most holding PhDs obtained from international institutions. While some professors may present challenges, overall, the faculty is commendable. Certain professors may even serve as personal mentor. Professors employ both slide presentations and traditional blackboard teaching methods. Faculty members are primarily accessible via email, allowing students to schedule meetings at their convenience.
