US people are good at management. So they seek technical experts from India. This is why the top performers of IITs get readily placed in IT jobs in the US for attractive salaries (more than 7 figures in rupees).
Whether you join an IIM or Great Lakes Institute, both receive a limited number of US offers during placement season. As for off campus placements, IIM Shillong and Great Lakes are both average institutes. So the chances of getting a US based offer are further reduced.
The best option is to either opt for an MBA in the US itself, or to work for big names in India for a couple of years. This will help you build a strong resume, and get noticed by recruiters abroad.
An IIM Shillong degree will offer comparably better job prospects in the US. The IIM brand value can give you a lot of advantages while looking for jobs, off-campus. If you have work-experience, the opportunities offered by IIM Shillong and GLIM through campus drives are similar.
IIM Shillong placements 2022 ended with a median CTC of around INR 20 LPA. Great Lakes Chennai placements 2022 witnessed an average CTC of INR 16.86 LPA.
The answer to this question depends if a student has prior work experience or not. If you have work experience beforehand, IIM Shillong is equivalent to Green Lakes Institute of Management as the opportunities on campus regarding placements and internships are almost the same.

If you want to avail some off-campus opportunities without any prior work experience, the stamp of an IIM will give you better weightage and preference over other colleges. However, if you have prior work experience and are looking for off-campus opportunities, then it is definitely better and advisable to opt for IIM Shillong.
Losing one year can be seen as a better risk and not much of a big deal than going to a place where it is just not enough for opportunities abroad and ruining your prospective career overseas. Even the Great Lakes Institute of Management is good but when it comes to IIM, the its stamp holds a lot of importance in our country and it also has more significance abroad.
You will find offers from US companies but the salary packages are not that high as offered to an IITian. However, IIM Shillong is ranked above Great Lakes but you can expect great salary packages here. You must work hard to grab an international offer as US companies will look for big companies listed on your CV.
