Can anyone guide me regarding what kind of questions are asked in NITIE Mumbai for PGDIE intakes?
Posted On - Aug 20, 2021A friend of mine appeared for the PGDIE interview of NITIE Mumbai, a few years back. He is a Mechanical Engineering graduate. Around 70% of the interview questions were about his profile and his B.Tech project. There were some questions from his graduation subjects as well. During the interview, they often ask technical questions like, ‘Why NITIE?’, ‘What is your career goal?’, etc.
NITIE selection criteria assign more weightage to the GATE score. If you have a decent GATE score, you will have an edge over others. But don’t take the GD-PI round lightly.
You will be offered admission on the basis of your GATE score. The cutoff is usually around 609 and above. Once you are shortlisted, you will be called for a group discussion and a personal interview.
The PI is held by head professors who hold high degree qualifications. They will ask you very basic questions at the beginning like - Tell us about yourself, basic questions on your branch, your B.Tech project details.
- Utilize the time given to you in answering your question as briefly as possible but do not miss out on the important details. If possible, thoroughly explain your projects to provide a better understanding of your abilities and skills to the interviewers.
- Questions regarding robotics and the designing of mechanical arms might also be asked in the interview. Prepare as perfectly as possible to satisfy the interviewers with your answers.
- They might ask you about your favorite subjects or books or even ask HR questions such as, why have you chosen our college? What makes you interested in this field? Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
- Confidence is the key through your GD and PI round. Do not hesitate or blurt out your answers. Rather keep your composure and answer as calmly and confidently as possible.
The final merit list of accepted students is based on the following division of marks:

GATE score is not the only deciding factor in your admission. Ace your GATE exam to have an upper hand in the admission procedure. But keep in mind that GD and PI rounds should not be taken lightly. If your performance in GD and PI round is extraordinary, a low GATE score would not matter.
