New Delhi: XLRI Jamshedpur's social initiative committee, SIGMA-oikos has successfully organised the 6th edition of its Social Entrepreneurship Conclave on February 18, 2023. For this session, the event was held in offline mode on the campus ground.
As per XLRI Jamshedpur, the theme of this year's Social Entrepreneurship Conclave was, "Exploring Waste Management through an Entrepreneurial Lens”. The conclave was attended by close to 100 participants and
The XLRI Jamshedpur Social Entrepreneurship Conclave 2023 was organised with the aim to bring together entrepreneurs, experts and interested candidates in a single platform where they can learn from those who are making a change in the world through their ventures.
In addition to this, the event explored the importance of improving the accessibility, availability and affordability of waste management methods in India with the help of innovative solutions.
The conclave covered two subthemes: Leveraging Technology in Entrepreneurship Sphere and Building a Sustainable and Profitable Business for Waste Management. Social entrepreneurs who joined the session shared their experiences and challenges with other participants.
Speaking on this occasion, Wilma Rodrigues, Founder of Saahas Zero Waste, gave the keynote talk on "Exploring Waste Management through an Entrepreneurial Lens" and shared the significance of putting the needs of people and the environment before financial success.
In her speech, she further emphasised the importance of the circular economy and how 96% of garbage can be collected and repurposed. This step will aid in effective waste management as well as in reviving the economy and giving people a means of subsistence.
She shared Saahas Zero Waste is already working towards offering decentralised end-to-end trash management services. Based on the concepts of circular economy and global sustainability, the organisation seeks to have an impact on the environment and society.
After this, Dr Jayanarayan Kulathingal (Co-Founder and Director of Bintix), Saurabh Suman (Co-Founder of Citygen Technology), and N Chandrashekhar (Director of Jivoule Biofuels) spoke on the sub-theme "Leveraging Technology in the Entrepreneurship Sphere".
The session was moderated by Mr Sanjeev Anand Sahu, Academician of ISM Dhanbad. The session covered questions on challenges faced in businesses and the inner workings of social business enterprises. The event saw participation from students and aspiring social entrepreneurs.
