The Delhi High Court has ruled against the petition of a student seeking extension for the last date of Application for NEET 2020.

The student claimed that she was unable to register for the NEET 2020 examination before the last date because of her father’s illness. While pleading for an extension, she had submitted the medical record of her father as a proof to support her claim.

The petition was supported by two of the major extensions provided by the NTA, first the extension of the correction window of NEET 2020 which was followed by the extension of last date to apply for JEE Mains 2020.

However, the court turned down the petition claiming that any extension in the application process of NEET 2020 will now lead to disrupt the entire schedule of examination, which has now been scheduled to be conducted on July 26, 2020.

The ruling by Justice Sachdeva said, “the extension of the correction window for NEET(UG)-2020 was granted in the view of the difficulties being faced by the aspirants because of the nationwide lockdown due to the outbreak of COVID-19 epidemic”.

It also mentioned that the last date to register for NEET 2020 was Dec 31, 2019 which was extended till January 6, 2020 and there was no lockdown or pandemic of coronavirus declared at that point of time by the Government of India.

Delhi High Court’s ruling even clarified that the extension of Application Deadline for JEE Mains 2020 was justified, saying that the NTA received many request from the students who were scheduled to join the colleges abroad, has now because of the changed circumstances due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic are keen to pursue their studies in India thus there is a rationale behind the decision regarding the extension of last date of application for JEE Mains 2020.

With this judgement, the speculation regarding the extension of the last date of NEET 2020 application form comes to an end. The Application form for the NEET 2021 is expected to be released in the month of December 2020.
