Tamil Nadu State Government has approached the Central Government to exempt students from the state from appearing in NEET 2020. Amid the rising chorus to postpone or cancel NEET 2020, Tamil Nadu State Education Minister K A Sengottaiyan has written to the Center requesting either the cancellation of the exam or exempting students from Tamil Nadu.

The news has been confirmed by several media agencies who have reported that the state government has decided to request an exemption from NEET 2020 medical exam for the students from the state.

Meanwhile, NTA has already released the NEET 2020 Admit Card. Reportedly, 4 lakh students have already downloaded their hall ticket within the first 3 hours.

NEET 2020 is scheduled to be conducted on September 13, 2020. NTA had released a detailed COVID-19 Advisory for NEET 2020 with all the guidelines and instructions that are to be followed for the safety of candidates and the staff involved in conducting the exam.

Earlier, DML Chief MK Stalin had questioned the TN government about their silence on the students’ concern for postponement of JEE Main and NEET 2020. He had asked TN CM Edapadi Palanisamy to call a special session of State Assembly to pass a resolution rejecting holding of NEET 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On August 24, 2020, MK Stalin had written to Union Education Minister to postpone JEE, NEET 2020.

NEET aspirants have shown their concern regarding attending the entrance because of the absence of public transport, common toilets at the NEET Exam Center, total lockdown restrictions. etc.

An aspiring doctor from Tamil Nadu, B Krithika, who is supposed to appear for the exam on Septemeber 13, said that she is unsure if she will be able to appear for NEET 2020 as there is no public transport in Tamil Nadu yet and the state is likely to be under total lockdown on Sunday as it has been over the last few months.

Many similar aspirants share similar problems as Krithika as there are only 14 districts out of 33 that have NEET centers. Since the state has crossed 3 lakh COVID cases, there are several hotspots. Some of these are also the exam center making the students more anxious.

Apart from Tamil Nadu, four other states have demanded postponement of NEET 2020 as well as JEE Main. Check  Details Here.
