Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) recently completed its last semester exams for Bachelor of Technology (BTech) as well as five-year integrated Master of Science (MSc). The exam was conducted in the online format.
Following the smooth conduct of final semester exams, Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology in a recently held senate meeting decided to conduct the exam of a second, fourth and sixth-semester exam for B.Tech and sixth and eighth-semester exam in five-year M.Sc course.
For the final semester exams, altogether 814 students appeared from various branches of B.Tech and M.Sc. The institute has said that the result for the same will be announced soon.
Initially, the decision to conduct the final year exam was opposed by a section of students who were demanding they should be given marks as per the previous exam performance.
However, the institute refused to cancel the exam and conducted the exam in an online format.
"Exam of around 2,700 students of B.Tech, M.Sc and M.Tech will now be conducted after successful completion of last semester exam. Last year MTech tests also continue currently," said H R Jariwala, associate dean, academic, SVNIT.
As per a faculty member of the institute, exams will also be conducted for students who have failed in the previous semester.
"We are ensuring that the students can appear in the exam without any trouble. Taking the exam will help them in their career," said SR Gandhi, director, SVNIT.
The exam for last semester students was conducted online and was uploaded online. Students were supposed to send scanned answer book after writing answers
"In current circumstances, the final semester exam was of 30 marks instead of 50 marks. We have earlier completed 30 marks mid-semester exam and its marks will now be calculated on proportionate out of 50 marks," said PG Agnihotri, professor at Civil Engineering Department, SVNIT.
The institute also conducted a 20 marks surprise test earlier and its marks will be counted in the final result.
