In its verdict over NLAT 2020, Supreme Court quashed the conduct of separate entrance test by National Law School of India University Bangalore (NLSIU).
The apex court ordered that the institute (along with all other NLUs) would have to conduct admissions to its courses through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2020 only.

The judgement on NLAT 2020 was reserved by the Bench of Justices Ashok Bhushan, R Subhash Reddy and MR Shah on September 17 after an extensive hearing. The court directed that CLAT 2020 will be held on its scheduled date i.e. September 28, 2020, in accordance with the safety guidelines prescribed by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The court also ordered the Consortium to announce CLAT result 2020 as early as possible to ensure timely commencement of academic calendar.
It is to be noted that NLSIU faced many backlashes over technical requirements to conduct NLAT 2020 that left many students inaccessible to sit for the test. Also, it was at the time of re-test when allegations of paper getting leaked over social media came forward while students were still writing their test.
The petitioners against NLSIU had filed a rejoinder before the Court, asserting that the institute miserably failed in conducting NLAT 2020 and has made a large number of candidates suffer. The exam and its procedure lack transparency and cannot be termed “a success” by the widest stretch of imagination, the petitioners averred in their rejoinder.
