New Delhi: The Supreme Court has given a verdict dismissing the plea seeking Special Stray Round of Counselling for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, NEET PG 2021.
The Supreme Court dismissed a petition seeking a Special Stray Vacancy Round of NEET PG Counselling 2021. This was asked for the candidates to get an opportunity at the vacant seats.
The matter regarding the NEET PG Counselling 2021 was raised in the Apex Court after a petition was filed seeking another chance at the counselling to fill up the vacant seats.
A Bench of Justices M R Shah and Aniruddha Bose heard the matter, gave its verdict and dismissed the plea.
During the initial phase of the hearing, the Supreme Court observed that when so many seats are left unfilled, it could potentially cause difficulty to students and to the number of qualified doctors.
The Centre had submitted its response in favour of not holding another round, after the first rounds of counselling was concluded.
However, after successive rounds of hearing on the NEET PG Counselling 2021 issue, the Apex Court reserved its order today.
By dismissing this plea, the Supreme Court also noted that if the authorities have made a conscious decision of not holding another round of counselling, it cannot be considered 'arbitrary.'
Since the plea was dismissed by the Supreme Court, another round of NEET PG Counselling 2021 will not be conducted.
The Centre while keeping its stand on the matter had told the Supreme Court that nine rounds of counselling had already taken place and that a large number of vacancies was a result of candidates not taking up non-clinical seats.
Meanwhile, the National Board of Examinations, NBE released the NEET PG 2022 results. With the scorecards being released, the schedule for NEET PG 2022 Counselling is now expected to be out soon. However, there is no confirmation regarding that.
