The Supreme Court of India has directed the Central Government to accommodate NEET 2020 candidates residing outside India in the Vande Bharat flights. A bench consisting of Justices L Nageswara Rao, Hemant Gupta and S Ravindra Bhat directed the government to ensure that such students reach their examination centres on the stipulated date in order to take the NEET.

Many students who live in the Gulf countries take NEET every year. This year, due to the coronavirus pandemic, such candidates have not been able to travel to their examination centres.

So far, the Vande Bharat flights have only catered to distressed migrant labourers, stranded students, or those with family emergencies. After the instructions from the Supreme Court, the NEET aspirants should also be accommodated on these flights.

Such candidates will have to go through compulsory quarantine measures once they arrive in India. The Supreme Court has directed the government to discuss the matter with the concerned ministries and act accordingly. They have also recommended to the Medical Council of India to hold the examination online from the next year onwards to avoid such snags.

Having been postponed twice this year, NEET 2020 is scheduled to be given on 13 September. The NEET 2020 admit card will be released on 29 August.
