After repeated pleas and Twitter campaigns by students to postpone competitive examinations like ComedK and IIT JEE went unnoticed, students have begun to tweet their requests with the hashtag #InternationalYouthDay.

ComedK is scheduled to be held on 19 August, JEE Main from 1 to 6 September and JEE Advanced on 27 September. The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is due to be held on 13 September.

On 11 August, the Supreme Court was moved to seek a directive to postpone NEET and JEE.

A student in West Bengal said, “Maybe the authorities will realize the irony behind how youngsters in our country are ignored even as the world celebrates International Youth Day.” She added that many of her friends are stuck in remote areas and are unlikely to be able to take the examination.

Another student from West Bengal said that lockdown dates in the state are continuously changing and transportation is a problem. The student’s ComedK examination centre is in Kolkata, 100 km from their hometown. “Many students are facing the same problem… we are worried about reaching the centre,” the student said.

Many of these students said that national-level entrance examinations carry a bigger risk than KCET or SSLC. However, some students want the examinations to be held according to schedule.

According to one student, if the supervisors test negative for coronavirus, they could invigilate wearing PPE kits. Transportation could be allowed for two days for those who have admit cards.
