New Delhi: Engineering students will have two chances to appear for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Main) this year, rather than four decides National Testing Agency (NTA). The entrance examination will be held in the month of April and May.

From 2021 onwards, the Ministry of Education has decided to increase the number of attempts to four.

According to preliminary discussions between officers from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) or NEET-UG will be held between the third and first weeks of July.

In 2021, around 26 lakh engineering, medical, and allied programme applicants sat these examinations.

According to the official, Covid-19 was the major reason for approving four attempts last year. Because of the second wave, the situation was different. However, things have improved, and it has been agreed that two tries would be helpful based on the present condition.

By the end of this month, registration will be open.

According to other sources, the window for entry has been limited due to the delays in most exams, including the class XII Board exams, if admissions are to be completed on time this year.

Exams for CBSE class XII will commence on April 26, while exams for the Council for the Indian Faculty Certificates Examinations will begin in the last week of April.

JEE (Main), a multi-session computer-based test, is taken by college students to get admission to top engineering institutions as well as to gain eligibility to sit in JEE (Advance), the entrance exam for the Indian Institutes of Technology.
