The bench at SC has granted seven days to file a counter affidavit and 3 days after that for rejoinder.

Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Abhay S. Oka were a part of the bench. They had mentioned,” We will take a serious view of this. You have to fill in the seats. Period.”

Previously a notice was released claiming that no further counselling of INI CET will be held. This came as a surprise to the students who were aspiring to take admission at the top medical institutes in the country.

The aspiring doctors had made a petition against this to the supreme court. The petition claims that the impugned decision came as a surprise to the candidates who were expecting seats in premier medical colleges in the country.

Sr. Adv. Gopal Sankaranarayanan appearing on behalf of the petitioners commenced with his arguments elucidating the misery of the candidates who put in the best years in preparation to crack these competitive exams, but unfortunately their aspirations fall prey to the administrative apathy.

The case was earlier meant to be heard on November 4. However, since the case was scheduled to be heard in Court Number 3 and the said court was busy hearing a constitutional matter, the Chief Justice of India UU Lalit stated that the matter was not likely to be taken up, as per LiveLaw. Prior to this, the case was scheduled to be heard on October 31.

AIIMS has been asked to file a counter and the next hearing of the case is scheduled for November 14, as per LiveLaw.

Meanwhile, students and doctors associations took to Twitter to express concern regarding the same. “How unfortunate is it that so many vacancies are in Institutes of National Importance and we are having to rely on the Supreme Court to ensure that our existing JRs (Junior Residents) don't get overburdened due to sudden cancellation of Open Counselling for INI-CET PG Entrance July 22 Session!” the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) stated in a tweet.
