On Monday, the Supreme Court dismissed a plea demanding postponement of MHT CET 2020. Referring to the order to conduct NEET and JEE Main 2020 as scheduled, the apex court said that since the two exams are being conducted as issued therefore exams in one state can’t be postponed.
Earlier MHT CET 2020 was scheduled to be held from July 04 and August 03 to August 05, 2020. However, they were postponed due to the COVID-19 crisis.
One of the notifications on the official website of State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra, said, "Due to the global epidemic of coronavirus, MHT CET 2020 has been postponed till further orders from the State Common Entrance Examination Cell.”
Maharashtra Government will now announce the MHT CET 2020 exam dates soon on the official website.
Uday Samant, Higher Technical Education Minister postponed MHT CET 2020 and other entrances for various subjects of the Department of Higher Education and Technical Education conducted on behalf of the state Common Entrance Examination Cell.
The court said, "We already allowed conducting JEE-NEET, how can we now stop exams in one state?” On August 22, SC had dismissed a plea seeking postponement of JEE, NEET 2020. Both the exams are scheduled in September 2020.
Sandeep Kadam, Commissioner of CET Cell recently said that MHT CET 2020 would be conducted online, but not in a proctored manner. Also adding that there are no chances of considering JEE Mains scores for engineering admissions.
The earlier postponement of the exam was due to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the state of Maharashtra. However, since the apex court has dismissed the plea for postponement of the exam, it is more likely that the MHT CET 2020 exam dates would be announced soon.
