SAT Exam to be Conducted Digitally from 2023

New Delhi: The College Board has announced that SAT exam will be conducted Digitally from 2023. This change in mode has been made keeping in mind the digital transformation due to pandemic.

According to the officials, this shift from pen-paper mode to digital mode will make it easier and more relevant for students. Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) is a standardized test for students aiming to pursue undergrad degrees from the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asian countries like Singapore and India.

SAT scores determine the cognitive ability of the student. A high SAT Score means the student has a strong academic ability. Here are some of the main changes made in SAT Exam 2023:

  • Shorter Time Duration: The exam time has been reduced from 3 hrs to 2hours 14 mins. 
  • Computer-Adaptive Bisectional Test: From 2023, SAT will be held as a Computer-Adaptive Bisectional Test. This means that no two students will get the same questions. The test has been divided into two parts. The questions on the second part depends on the answers given by the student on the first part. This makes the test unique for everyone. 
  • Combined Reading and Writing Section: Earlier, SAT Exam had different sections for testing reading and writing skills. From this year, these two sections have been merged. The core skills tested in this section will include comprehension, content knowledge, and syntactical accuracy among others.
  • Calculators are Allowed: From this year, students will be allowed to use calculators for the Maths segment. Also, there will be no separate time portions for questions in the Maths section.
  • Reduced Length of Incontext Questions: The length of Incontext questions and word problems has been reduced.
  • Shorter Passages: The passages in this year’s paper will be shorter. There will be one question linke3d to the passage. Earlier, the passages were lengthier and there were multi[ple questions related to the passage. This will increase the readability of the passages and will make it easier for the students to analyse and answer them. 
  • 7 Test Attempts in a Year: From this year, SAT Exam will be conducted 7 times a year instead of 5, in all the international locations. 
  • Secured Test: Digitally Transforming the test has made it difficult tor forge. The unique questions as well as the digital entry will not let students pass on answers. 

Format of Digital SAT

SAT exam is divided into two sections: Reading and writing skills and mathematics.

Reading and Writing Section Reading and writing section for SAT has two modules.

Each module consists of 25 operational questions and 2 pre-test questions. Both the sections get 32 minutes per stage. In all this section has 54 questions and a total time of 64 minutes is allotted for both the modules.

Math Section The Math Section also has two modules. The 1st and 2nd modules consist of 20 operational questions and 2 pre-test questions. Both the sections get 35 minutes per stage. This section has 44 questions, and a total time of 70 minutes is allotted to solve all the questions.
