New Delhi: Karti P. Chidambaram, a member of parliament, has urged Dharmendra Pradhan, the union education minister, to step in and temporarily ease the eligibility requirements for students taking the JEE Main and JEE Advanced in 2023. The Congress MP requested a concession for candidates who took the exam for the last time in 2022 in a letter to the education minister.

"I would like to draw your attention to issues voiced by students who participated in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains and Advanced in 2022," Chidambaram stated. These applicants put forth a lot of effort to get into the top engineering schools in India, but they were denied a fair shot at the exam due to a number of obstacles that were entirely out of their control.

The MP claimed that a "multitude" of technical issues plagued both JEE Main 2022 sessions, which were held in the months of June and July. These issues included computer systems that repeatedly crashed, screens that froze for long periods of time, questions that took too long to load, incomplete questions, etc. As a result, many candidates saw a significant drop in their percentile and scores.

In addition, a number of applicants were turned away from the JEE Main 2022 exam because of last-minute centre modifications. Following the exam, a lot of participants experienced issues with inconsistent response sheets and incorrect JEE Main 2022 results.

"A sizable portion of the students who were affected by these issues in JEE Main or JEE Advanced were taking these exams for the last time this year. It was their final effort at both JEE Main and JEE Advanced this year for students who graduate from Class 12 in 2020, and it was their final attempt at JEE Advanced this year for those who passed from Class 12 in 2021, according to the letter.

In view of this situation, I implore you to step in and issue a one-time exemption to all students registering for the JEE Main and Advanced tests in 2023. This will eliminate the burden of locating certain pupils who had problems in the 2022 tests, added Chidambaram.
