Students of Rama Devi Women's University staged a demonstration in front of the institute on June 4, 2020. This was done to urge the government and the university to cancel the end semester examinations.
Swikruti Mishra, first PG student of RDW University said, " Around 245 of the students of our university are out of Odisha. Around 18% of these students are staying in containment zones. It is not safe to hold the classroom examinations at this time."
She also said that there is a risk of infection while travelling in public transport and appearing for the examinations where the same facilities will be accessed by all students will be of high risk.
Swikruti also added that students had met the higher education minister Arun Kumar Sahoo, but it went in vain.
Students request the University to either conduct the examinations in online mode or promote the students on the basis of previous semester and internal test results.
The state government had decided to conduct the sixth semester of UG or Plus III final year examinations between June 20, 2020 and July 24, 2020. The result for these will be announced by August 31, 2020.
On the other hand, final year PG examinations will be conducted by August 20, 2020 and the result for the same will be released by September 20, 2020.
Padmaja Mishra, Vice-Chancellor of the University also said in this regard, " The decision is taken by the state government and we cannot change the decision. End semester exams are important because we will be conducting the Common PG Entrance Test later. Students should try to understand this."
Members of National Students Union of India (NSUI), Odisha also staged a demonstration near Congress Bhawan demanding exemption of school and college fees of Odisha students for four months i.e March to June. They also demanded relaxation in payment of fees for six months.
Niranjan Das, member of NSUI said that people are facing financial crisis and it is difficult to pay the fees of schools or colleges.
