Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings released its list of Top 200 Universities on June 10, 2020, in which three Indian Universities are featured.

The three institutes are IIT Bombay, IISc Bangalore, and IIT Delhi. However, not a single Indian institute got a position in the top 100 universities of QS World University ranking

As compared to last year, 14 institutes have slipped in ranking and four institutes have improved their standing as well. IIT Bombay ranked 152nd position in QS world university ranking 2020, while IISc Bangalore and IIT Delhi bagged 184th and 182nd positions respectively.

Compared to last year, IIT Bombay has improved its ranking. In 2019 ranking, IIT Bombay had bagged 162nd position.

The QS ranking is prepared on the basis of academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, faculty/student ratio, international faculty ratio, and international student ratio.

“Indian higher education performs ‘most strongly’ in research quality, though its universities are failing to increase their academic standing, teaching capacity, and levels of internationalization at the same rate as competitors across the world,” said a statement issued by Quacquarelli Symonds.

QS research director Ben Sowter said, "Though India's universities have dropped as a group this year, this is because of other universities across the world making increasingly intense efforts to enhance their educational offerings.”

He further said “In order to regain lost ground, Indian higher education must find ways of increasing teaching capacity, and of attracting more talented students and faculty across the world. There is plenty of potentials, and there are pockets of excellence, within the Indian system."
