Puducherry Chief Minister, V Narayanasamy, stated on Tuesday that the Puducherry government has planned to furnish an internal reservation of 10 percent MBBS seats to students of Puducherry government schools.

In a meeting held on Monday, the state cabinet has made a decision for the reservation of MBBS seats through the NEET examination. Accordingly, a File related to this meeting was sent to Lt. government Kiran Bedi. 

If LG grants the approval, the reservation criteria will be put on in action from this year only. However, in any case, LG denies the proposal request government will file the case against the decision in the high court. 

In the academic year 2018-19, only 94 students from government schools were able to qualify National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) and among them, only 16 of them were finally selected for the MBBS course.

On the other hand, a large sum of 1,346 aspirants from private schools passed the exam, and 243 of them were qualified for the MBBS course.

Supreme Court Dismisses Plea seeking Reservation for OBC

Supreme Court has dismissed a plea filed by the Tamil Nadu government and other state governments seeking for 50 percent reservation for the OBC category under All India Quota (AIQ) seats in state-funded medical colleges from this academic year.

Earlier, the Tamil Nadu government had sought to implement reservations up to 69% for OBC category students.

NEET 2020 admission process has been commenced in many states abiding by all the necessary protocols of COVID-19. NEET 2020 was held on September 13 and October 14. Accordingly, the NEET 2020 Result was officially released on October 16.
