New Delhi: The Odisha State Board is to evaluate the answer scripts of the Matric or High School Certificate (HSC) Examination in three different ways. The final marks or grades will be given on the basis of the best of the three outcomes. Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra made the announcement on Friday, March 11, 2022.

Odisha Board to Evaluate Matric Students in Three Different Ways

Secretary Mahapatra has also stated that the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), the authority responsible for conducting the Matric examinations, came up with this decision after conducting a meeting with the parents, teachers, students and educationists.

As per the decisions taken in the meeting, the Odisha Board is conducting two Summative Assessments (SA). The first one was conducted in January 2022. The second one is going to be held from April 29- May 6, 2022. The final marks will be based after considering the separate marks secured in SA-I, SA-II and Internal Assessments.

Evaluation Method for the Matric Students

According to the evaluation method adopted by the Odisha Board of Secondary Education, there are different formats of evaluation. Here are the methods:

  • Firstly, the marks received by the students in SA-I will be doubled to find out the result
  • As per the second method, the weightage of SA-II will be doubled to calculate the result
  • Finally, as per the Internal Assessment (IA) method, 30% marks of SA-I, 50% of SA-II and 20% of the IA will be taken into account.

Students will be given the final result on the basis of the best score received through any one of these methods.

The concerned authorities have taken this decision keeping in mind the disastrous impact of the COVID situation. According to them, this way they won’t have to be stressed about the upcoming examinations.

Students are supposed to appear at their own schools for the offline SA-II examinations. Teachers from other schools are to supervise the examination. In case the schools cannot arrange the examination, the students are to appear at the nearest BSE schools. The Board will issue a guideline regarding that later.

The Class 10 Board Examination will start from March 11, 2022, at 8 a.m., as per the official statement.
