The National Testing Agency has written a letter to the Union Health Ministry requesting if the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) could be conducted twice a year from 2021.

The NEET is an entrance examination conducted annually to provide admission to Medical and Dental courses. An average of 1.3 Million candidates had appeared for the NEET 2020 examination.

An official from the NTA stated that the students are experiencing a huge amount of stress while preparing for the highly competitive NEET examination. Hence conducting the examination twice a year would reduce the stress and pressure on students.

The permission of the ministry is required to take any such move, the official informed. The NEET examination is presently only conducted by the National Testing Agency.

The NTA official also stated, “The move to hold the test twice would bring relief to students. However, presently it is not easy to conduct a pen and paper twice as it requires much larger arrangements. The NTA has also suggested that the possibility of holding it in the online mode may be examined.”

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is conducted to provide admission to Engineering courses which is conducted by the NTA. It is to be noted that JEE Main 2021 entrance examination will be conducted 4 times in online mode.
