New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Education has planned to form an expert committee to analyse the feasibility to make NITIE Mumbai, an IIM under the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Act, 2017.

The expert committee will consist of five members who will bring NITIE Mumbai under the IIMs. The committee will be chaired by Bombay Stock Exchange’s Chief Executive Officer and Allahabad University Chancellor Ashishkumar Chauhan. 

As per the notification, Prof. Subhasis Choudhuri, Director, IIT Bombay; Prof. Pawan Kumar Singh, Director of IIM Tiruchirappalli; Prof. Pramod Kumar Jain, Director, IIT BHU; and Shri Pradeep Goyal, CMD, M/s Pradeep Metals, will be members of the expert committee.

The five-member committee will assess the preparedness of NITIE Mumbai, for inclusion under the IIM Act, 2017, followed by examining the aspect of the adequacy of the existing infrastructure or academic and non-academic staff of the institute vis-a-vis the requirement for the proposed inclusion under the IIM Act.

The committee members will evaluate the financial implications of the decision and the institute’s future road map. In addition to assessing any HR issues like designation/ financial emoluments/cadre restructuring-related issues of teaching and non-teaching staff.

The expert committee may co-opt other members in the group for their specific inputs and the institute will provide secretarial assistance to the committee.

According to the notification, the expert committee aims to submit its report at the earliest within a month from the date of release of the communication. 

To note, NITIE, Mumbai has been at a number one position for imparting education to the youngsters in the field of industrial engineering, engineering management and management sciences. As per the latest updates, NITIE has been ranked 68 worldwide and 3rd in India by The Impact Ranking 2021. 

The institute has also been ranked 24 overall, 22 in Human Resource by the Economic Times 2021 and 17 by Outlook ICare 2021. As per NIRF 2021, NITIE has been ranked at 12th place, in the category of the best B-Schools in India.

Recently, the institute also concluded its placement drive for the MBA Batch 2022 recording 100% placements for its largest-ever batch of 468 students. The Highest CTC stood at INR 49 LPA whereas the Average CTC was at INR 25.41 LPA with a 30% increase from last year. 33% of students were offered Pre-placement offers. A total of 111 recruiters participated in the placement drive.
