New Delhi: National Institute of Technology (NIT), Trichy has organised a high-end workshop on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in food processing. The workshop was sponsored by SERB (Science and Engineering Research Board) and held as part of the Accelerate Vigyan Scheme.
As per NIT Trichy, the National Institute of Food Technological Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM), Thanjavur, and the technology institute collaborated to arrange the seven-day workshop program. Several education specialists participated in the workshop and along with 25 participants.
The participants who joined the workshop were chosen at random from around the nation. The workshop included demonstrations of solar-assisted cold storage systems using a prototype with a two-ton capacity along with a discussion on the large array of themes addressed by artificial intelligence.
The Department of Science and Technology (DST) of the institute is providing funds for the development of the solar-assisted cold storage system at a cost of INR 1.10 crore as announced by the Head of the Instrumentation and Control Engineering (ICE) Department, K Dhanalakshmi.
During the workshop, NIT Trichy Professor N Sivakumaran discussed the "Application of AI in Food Processing Industries," and Assistant Professor PA Karthick discussed "Deep learning approaches in Food Technology".
For government school students, NIT Trichy has also started offering offline preparation for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), which is required to enrol in the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and other prestigious universities.
The training program which was run by the institute's teaching club IGNITTE, offers instruction to Class 11 students in government schools. Students from the districts of Trichy and Tirunelveli will participate in the initiative's training this year.
As per the officials, the students are chosen based on performance on a qualifying exam administered by IGNITTE. A total of 23 kids from Trichy and 26 from Tirunelveli were chosen for the training out of the 400 pupils who showed up for the screening tests held in the two districts.
