New Delhi: National Institute of Technology Rourkela (NIT Rourkela) held its 20th convocation today, February 4, 2023. A total of 1,717 students were awarded degrees.The transcripts and degree certificates for the graduating students were uploaded on DigiLocker.
The chief guests of the convocation ceremony held by NIT Rourkela was Smt. Soma Mondal, chairman of the Steel Authority of India (SAIL), and the guest of honour was Shri Om Prakash Singh, chairman and managing director of the Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL). The convocation ceremony was presided over by Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao, Chairman of the Board of Governors and Director of NIT Rourkela.
Speaking at the event chief Guest, said, “This occasion is a celebration of the successful contribution of all stakeholders to the glory of its Institute and culmination of another stage of academic pursuit by the students".
“The institute has completed its glorious journey of 60 years. We are continually moving forward with our vision to become an internationally-acclaimed institution of higher learning that will serve as a source of knowledge and expertise for society and be a preferred destination for undergraduate and graduate studies.”

NIT Rourkela has seen a rise in the number of girl students passing out in different streams. This year a total of 351 (more than 20% of graduating students) female students including 136 in Bachelor programs; 177 in Master programs, and 38 in the PhD program have graduated from NIT Rourkela. It is also notable that female to male ratio of the Institute has significantly increased from 1:6 to 1:4 in recent years.
