National Institute of Technology - Jalandhar (NIT-J) has published their official notice that it will not be feasible due to the present COVID-19 pandemic situation for students to take admission for the full-time PhD programme 2020-21(session July 2020).

As per the official notice by NIT Jalandhar, the selected candidates are informed that they can join other institutes/ universities according to their preferences.

Candidates who have already taken admission to full-time PhD programmes 2020-21 in NIT-J say this an unfortunate decision that was never taken up by any other institute.

Candidates expressed their outrage at the tentative situation and raised queries over the part-time PhD student continuing the course in the same institute. One of the M.Tech students said that the institute deals with fellowship candidates where the institute is required to spend. While external fellowship continues their way.

In the meantime, Joint Research Council of India (JRCI) has taken action and wrote a letter to Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, Union Minister for Education advising the administration of NIT-J to revert the notice.

JRCI called it an unreasonable move and said that this pandemic situation is the same across the nation be it IIT or NIT or other institutes. It is a totally incomprehensible explanation that all the National Institutes are following respect, trust, and value of the Indian Education System during this pandemic while it is impossible for NIT-J administration.
