NEET UG 2023: NTA Revises Tie Breaking Criteria

New Delhi: National Testing Agency (NTA) has revised the tie-breaking criteria for NEET UG 2023. As per the new criteria, factors like age and NEET UG application number of applicants will not be considered for NEET UG tie-breaking from this session.

As per NTA, the tie-breaking criteria of NEET UG 2023 will be used if two or more applicants who appeared for the exam have the same marks or percentile scores. The methodology will be followed to break the deadlock and determine the inter-se-merit of NEET UG.

In addition to changes in tie-breaking methodology, the exam authority has also increased the exam fee and reduced the number of NEET UG exam centres. Detailed notification on the changes made is available on the official website of exam authority at neet.nta.ac.in.

NEET UG 2023 Tie Breaking Process

Following the changes made, NTA will follow the tie-breaking methodology in the below-mentioned order to break the tie and determine the inter-se-merit for NEET UG 2023:

  1. Preference will be given to candidates obtaining higher marks/percentile scores in biology (botany and zoology) in the test.
  2. If the tie remains the same, the candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile scores in chemistry on the test will be considered.
  3. Preference will be given to the candidate obtaining higher marks/percentile score in physics subject.
  4. Less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects will be given a higher rank.
  5. Less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Biology (Botany and Zoology) in the test will be given a higher rank.
  6. Less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in chemistry in the test will be given a higher rank.
  7. Lastly, if the tie still remains, candidates with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in physics in NEET UG 2023 will be considered.

The changes came a day after NTA opened the NEET UG 2023 application window for all interested and eligible candidates. Candidates who are preparing to appear for the test can submit their applications for the same through the official NTA NEET UG 2023.

Following the NEET UG 2023 Schedule, the last date to submit the NEET UG applications is April 06, 2023. After the application process, the exam will be held for all registered candidates on May 07, 2023 in 13 languages including Hindi and English.
