New Delhi: The Supreme Court has decided to hear a petition of postponing the NEET PG 2022 entrance exam today, May 13. The petition will be heard by the Bench of justice DY Chandrachud and PS Narasimha.

Senior advocate Rakesh Khanna had filed a plea on behalf of doctors seeking an 8-week delay in the exam dates which was scheduled to be conducted on May 21. The hearing is scheduled to be held at 10:30 AM in the morning.

Candidates are requesting a postponement since the exam is clashing with the ongoing NEET PG 2021 counselling procedure. Doctors who passed NEET PG 2021 with a lower rank would have to wait until the final rounds to acquire a seat; however, the application procedure for NEET PG 2022 has already concluded.

The counselling procedure will complete on May 9, and if the NEET PG 2022 exam is not postponed further it will begin on May 21. This leaves applicants with little time to prepare, so the petitioners are asking for a "fair opportunity." Furthermore, as many as 5000 interns are unable to take the test since they worked during the Covid-19 outbreak, and an extension will allow them to take the exam as well.

It said that some of the petitioners and aspirants include applicants who took the NEET-PG 2021 exam and are currently undergoing counselling, which is unlikely to be completed by May 9, 2022, which is creating confusion since July 2021.

According to the plea which was filed by 15 doctors who completed their MBBS studies are becoming victims of the system and are suffering for no fault of their own along with thousands of other aspirants.

The petitioners were participants in AIQ Mop-UP counselling and so did not fill out the form for NEET PG 2022 in the hope of getting a seat. And now after AIQ Mop-UP was cancelled on March 31 due to the fault of MCC the petitioners in the plea also asked if they can be barred from filling out forms as the last date for doing so was March 25.
