NEET PG 2021: Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has postponed the commencement of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG 2021) counselling process until the Hon’ble Supreme Court decides on the reservation criteria for 50% All India Quota (AIQ).
As per the reports, counselling process for NEET PG 2021 has now been put on hold for all registered candidates till the apex court decides on the reservation of economically weaker section students.
Justice Chandrachud stated that NEET PG 2021 Counselling will not commence until the issue has been finalized by the Supreme Court. Confirming the statement, MCC official notice reads, “Counselling for NEET-PG, 2021 has been put on hold due to the pending court case before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. The NEET PG counselling will resume after the clarifications are received”.
Earlier, the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG 2021) counselling was scheduled to commence from October 25, 2021, for all registered candidates.
As per the official statement made by the Supreme Court, the counselling process for NEET PG 2021 has been put on hold until the reservation for OBC and EWS has been finalized in the All India Quota.
The decision to pause the counselling process was made after hearing the petition submitted against the Centre's and Medical Counselling Committee's (MCC) regarding the reservation of students in the NEET admission process.
The petition filed against the MCC’s decision to offer a 27 percent quota for the Other Backward Class (OBC) in the NEET admission process, and 10 percent for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category in NEET admission.
Referring to the decision, the court said, “For determining creamy layer in Other Backward Classes (OBC) category the limit was fixed as Rs 8 lakh annual income and they were considered progressed class among OBCs and they were excluded from reservation benefits".
"Here, for the EWS category, the limit is the same Rs 8 lakh annual income but it was for inclusion in the reservation benefits" the court further added. On October 07, 2021, the Supreme Court directed questions towards the center for its decision to fix a limited amount in determining the EWS category for reservation in NEET admissions.
Answering the queries, the Center stated they have fixed an annual salary limit of INR 8 Lakh annual income for EWS category candidates. The criteria have been fixed in accordance with theNational Cost of Living Index.
