Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Saturday urged the central government to cancel medical and engineering entrance exams JEE Main and NEET 2020 taking into account the COVID-19 situation. 

The Deputy Chief Minister has also suggested the central government to chose an alternative admission methodology instead of conducting exams this year.

Previously, Education Ministry officials stated that the Joint Entrance Examination (Main) and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) will be conducted in September as scheduled. 

While Manish Sisodia expressed his opinion by a tweet on Twitter which read: "The government is playing with the lives of lakhs of students in the name of JEE and NEET. I appeal Centre govt to immediately cancel both exams and adopt an alternative admission process.”

Moreover, he also called conducting exams as an impractical and conservative thought and stated that when other countries can have admission through different methods then why can’t it be done in India.

On the other hand, the Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea seeking postponement of JEE (Main) and NEET-undergraduate examinations which are scheduled to be conducted in September.

The apex court in its judgment said that “the precious year of students cannot be wasted and life has to go on.”

JEE Main is scheduled to be held between September 1 and 6, while the JEE Advanced on September 7. NEET undergraduate examination will be conducted on September 13.
