NEET 2023: Government Records 97% Increase in MBBS Seats, Check Details Here

New Delhi: According to Bharati Pravin Pawar, Minister of State in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the government has recorded an increase of 97 per cent in MBBS admission seats. The statistics were shared in the parliament on March 15, 2023. 

The honourable minister shared that the number of medical colleges that offer MBBS seats has also increased from 51, 348 (recorded before 2014) to 1,01,043. Out of the total seats, 52,778 are offered in government colleges and 48,265 are in private medical colleges in India

Additionally, the number of total medical colleges has increased by 71%, from 660 in 2014 to 387 in 2023. There is also an increase of 110% in PG admission seats, from 31,185 (recorded before 2014) to 65,335 as of now.

Following the data, Maharashtra offers a total of 4925 seats in government colleges and 5370 seats in private medical colleges of Maharashtra. The state has 64 colleges, out of which 30 are government and 34 are private medical colleges. 

Currently, Tamil Nadu offers a total of 11225 MBBS seats, Andhra Pradesh offers 5635 seats, Gujarat offers 6600 seats, Uttar Pradesh has 9253 seats and Telangana offers a total of 7415 seats for MBBS course through NEET 2023.

In addition to this, the Department of Medical Education, Uttar Pradesh has announced that it will add 1300 seats to its MBBS seat matrix. These seats will be offered by colleges managed by the state government and the new medical colleges will commence from 2023-24 session.
