Due to the rising concerns about  NEET 2020  examination to be held on September 13, 2020, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has informed the Supreme Court of India that it would not be possible to conduct the Medical entrance exams located outside India. 

In an affidavit filed in Supreme Court by NTA, has stated that it would not be possible to conduct NEET 2020 in Gulf Countries because the exam is conducted in offline i.e. ‘paper book format’.

NTA has also clarified that the national level medical examination has to be scheduled in a single shift on the same day, to maintain the uniformity.

The submission has come up in response to the plea filed by parents of students residing in Doha, Qatar, who had applied for NEET UG 2020. 

They have also filed a PIL to Kerala High Court Justices for assigning test centers for NEET Overseas. But the plea was dismissed by L. Nageswara Rao, Hemant Gupta, and S. Ravindra Bhat. Check  List of NEET 2020 Exam Centers

Standing by the High Court , the NTA has submitted, 

“the examination, in the present format, have been successfully conducted in the previous years i.e. 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 and, therefore, the Hon’ble High Court has rightly held that the same shall be permitted to be continued in the same format for the current year as well.”

NEET 2020 to be conducted in single shift, at same time

To ensure the fairness and transparency in the examination, the NEET 2020 is to be conducted on the same day and at the same time across all the test centers. This decision has been taken to ensure the uniformity in testing matrices and complete fairness while evaluating the students’ abilities.

Plea filed by parents for exam centers in abroad

The affidavit filed by the National Testing Agency before the Supreme Court comes in response filed by parents and medical aspirants from Gulf countries who are not able to travel to India to appear for NEET UG 2020 exam due to COVID-19 Pandemic. 

The question papers and other exam materials will be transhported from NTA headquarters to more than 6,000 centers in various cities, which would require active planning for safe conduct of the national level exam. 

Online exam not possible

The Authorities also consulted the Medical Council of India (MCI) of India to explore the possibility of conducting the exam online for students from abroad. However, MCI stated that NEET UG 2020 is to be conducted through objective-type questions in offline mode given to all applicants and uniformity has to be made for all. Therefore, holding the exam online is not possible.
